Hi Dave,
I'm printing out this thread everytime you post to it for my archives....keep up the good work and do post photos of your install once done or while in progress. Sounds like it will be a dynamite system....I'm envious. At present, my ONLY plans are to replace ALL of the OEM speakers with MBQuart gear. No subwoofer for me....I like having that silly spare in there JIC I should need it (think TAREK's trip home from SITM )
Best,
Tim

Hey, Tim... I've got a 10" sub and the spare. It can be done.

If you dont mind running extra wire, you can mount them anywhere like under the dash or under the front seats.

Ed,
Thank you....LOVE your 928 site by the way...have seen a subwoofer mount where it drops down inside of the spare tire. Creative idea that Porsche could have used considering the cost of the car when new.

Anyway, thanks to T_MaX as well...lots of room to be creative in 928-specific sound system installations.

Cheers,
Tim

Default Dismantled Interior

Here's a picture of the interior of the '91 in its present state:

Default Parts Source?

Does anyone know of a source for 'empty' connectors for the 6 and 9 pin factory stereo harness (pictured) below? I found a 9-pin connector - shown - that can be used but it isn't optimal. I've acquired all the other empty connectors, terminals, etc. I need to build the harness adaptors except for these two:

Try SWStereo.com. He builds those harnesses.

I've heard that in the later 928's (post '87?) all but the two large rear seat speakers are rated at 8 ohms. The two rears are rated a 4 ohms
Large read speakers are 2 ohms. That's why replacing them withstandard 4 ohms produces no bass with the factory amp.
I still need to fix this problem in my car.

Yeah. And he charges a pretty freakin' penny for 'em too.

I ordered the 6-pin connector for the power/ground from him. $30 including S&H. OUCH!

So, back to the original question - who supplies SWStereo with the 'empty' connectors? Anyone? Anyone?

Default Progress

The base plate for the Music Keg and right rear crossover is complete. Picture below. Next step is to screw in two black pull handles to make the assembly easy to pull out. Then, I'm waiting on the crossovers to arrive. The Music Keg needs all the space towards the back to install and remove the disk drive. The crossover will go up in the top-right corner next to the plastic cover. I'll have a medium-sized open area for a medium-sized amp in case I'm not happy with the head unit driving the speakers. (I'm going to run one set of pre-amp and one set of sub-outs to the well JIC.)

While we are on the subject of mounting the X-overs...

Unfortunately I did not take pics when I did my install, but the X-overs for my Kenwoods and Boston Acoustics speakers were pretty large too...I used industrical strength velcro to mount them...much easier to mount, and not as permanent as building a bracket...I have had the same set up in my Jeep doors for about 15000 miles and never had a problem with them coming off. Got the velcro at Home Depot...that stuff will hold just about anything...
