Steve:
I understand your perspective and experience on this pan thing. It's stamped from the same material they use for the turret on a Abrams tank! I can't understand how it could get twisted by accident, either.

But !!!

It didn't leak before that fateful "spring service" event last year.

I removed the pan and re-arranged it to be certain about it's placement, and then replaced the pan.................... it still eaked!

I removed the pan again and got a replacement gasket from a new "service kit" that came on orange cardboard, from the Porsche dealer............ it still leaked!

I R/R'd the plastic reservoir because there looked to be accumulation of ATF in that area first............. it still leaked!

I took it to a local Porsche mechanic that has a great reputation across 3 provinces and he R/R'd the rear cooler lines because they were weeping, and he R/R's the pan gasket with a new one......... it still leaks!!

I think I'm going to try the "shim-the-gasket" suggested by mpesik, above.

After that, I think I'll try the "kerosene-and-a-match" method!!!

Hi Brian G. Could you tell me how much Norden AutoHaus charged you for the kit?,and what kind of response did you receive from this 3province mech. Needed some advice and work done on Bizmark and a 4 wheel alignment. They did the front as per spec. On to the rear they said"All adjustments seized on rear.and would require torching it may cause further damage to other parts. Strange! After a couple of days of worrying about the situation. I went under the car myself, with some but not to much effort,I got them all loose. He and the rest were about as interested in my car as smelling my farts. Man, I hope the gasket to gasket to pan idea works. All the best of luck. Mike.

Then what’s happen is the bolt tabs are bent up not allowing the pan to compress the gasket against the transmission case / seal when you tighten the bolts. If the pan is removed tap the 6 tabs down away from were the valve body sits in the pan.

Mike:
The fellow calls himself "Elegant Motors", in Edmonton. He works out of a 3 bay garage in his back yard. Used to work for a Porsche shop in Montreal, apparently. I spoke to him about the alignment issue and he said that he uses a shop in the city that he has respect for........ one of the Kal-Tire shops I think..... I'll get the reference for you tomorrow. You certainly have to find someone that's actually interested in this car to have them work on the undercarriage!!

I didn't get the kit from Norden. I was living in Drumheller until last week, so I was getting my parts from Andrew at Weissach, in Vancouver. He's a great guy, and knows the Porsche parts system and the 928, very well.

Steve:
I'm dropping that pan again tomorrow and I'll look at the tabs again, but that's easier said than done, because the way they are formed with lips around some of them, you can't get it to a glass plate to check for levels.

.............. although, that gives me an idea........ a piece of glass plate, a few chunks of key-stock......... hmmmmmmmmmmmm. Any idea what the stand-off clearance is supposed to be?
