i was washing the car this pastweekend and saw this p-car. at first it didn't look like one but i got closer it said PORSCHE in the rear, i said to myself no way. this sucker was wide. rear tires were 345/45r15.
then popped the guy who was cleaning the front. ' hey what kinda car is this?" he replied a 1978 928. he also said that there were only 24 made of this edition. he quoted 350 rwhp.
does anyone have any pics? i only got the chance to take the rear end as the front was too close to the wall to take a front pic.
he also said that he bought it for 7800 usd. he brought/ drove it back from france.
he said he had two and the other one in the pic he had was a bit wider and the pop up light were gone instead he had air ducts and the driving lights were in the bumper.
he was thinking of selling the latter of the two.
which is easier to maintain? 951 or 928?
i was thinking of selling the 951 and get the other 928 off his hands

Go drive it and decide for yourself. Personally I'd look carefully, a '78 with 350bhp sounds too good. But there's no doubt, the Koenig cars are rare, exotic and no longer made. So, if you can pick this baby up, after looking it over and ensuring it's good, I'd say do it in a heartbeat .... those are gorgeous exotics, where the 951 is a sweet fast Porsche, but you can always pick another 951 up and may make $$ on the Koenig if you decided to sell. If you don't buy, let others know as I'm sure I and others here would love to take a look ![Cheers](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/smilies/beerchug.gif)

Here are some pics of similar cars:
If it does not look like these, it may be a Strosek, or Gemballa, or Jacquemond...

The key feature of the Koening, is the side vents, like a Ferarri, etc...
Here is a Strosek, in case that was what you saw:

Grab a 928 if you can!!
Here is a stockish 928 with 330rear wheel hp and 335x30x18s on the rear
if it wasnt a track car, it would be a very fun full time street car. (instead of part time right now!)

But that car was a one-off, and ended up in a junkyard in Europe.
Some guy posted that he bought it, and had pictures,
and it was in a sad state. Leaves, dirt, etc. It looked
like the engine had been sitting out in the wilderness
for 10 years. He was going to try to resore it, but it
looked like a pretty hopeless project. Easier to just build
a new one from scratch...

The Phat 928 belongs to someone I know (George W), and is sitting in a garage in Menlo park, CA..... It has a stock motor, and some interior and other mods.. I think it would be a great candidate for a supercharged project..!
Hmmmmmm... maybe a supercharged 6.0L....!

the gentleman(ack) said it came stock with a 5.7l eng. he's the second owner and it has 140,000 km on the clock, it's usually only driven on the weekend. i hope to see him again at the carwash, but i'll stalk him as he mention that he wanted to sell the other shark. the other one is an 84 but much wider than the 78, and it doesn't have the pop up lights, it's built inot the bumper.
what should i look for in case i do get the beast? price range

I can give the name and telephone number of the guy (here in Norway) that owns the engine bcdavis mentioned. It looks just like the picture, although really dirty. He has not been able to get rid of it, so maybe someone can get it cheap.

if true that 24 were only made, and only 10 is in circulation, then that makes the one he got a great buy. lucky.

Hey Carl,
Post some pictures and more info on this 84 car if you can. These Koenig cars are indeed rare. The only other complete 928 conversion in North America I know of is in Canada (guys that are on the internet, anyway).
Well, there are many things to look at when buying. Koenig did some pretty exotic work with their 928 conversions. Mixing several different MY components into one car, depending on when it was done. But, I must say Koenig did know what the hell they were doing as far as making it all work together properly.
My car is an 84 body, with 84 suspension, brakes. But has a 88 engine "stroked" with a GTS crankshaft (5.4L) with an Albrex supercharger. With an 89-90ish interior.
It all comes down to you in the end as far as buying it. Will you work on the car yourself or have someone else do it? (the second would require a 'money tree' growing in the backyard) (I'm not kidding). Most of these Koenig cars are getting old, and well, will require work... and depends if the car has been driven hard or not (thats a dumb question
These are highly modified cars. But can be easily done by yourself if you are into that. Heck, since you are in Germany, you would have better access to the specialized parts on the car than I do over here!
Selling price is very subjective, it boils down to how much are you willing to pay, and will the seller sell it for that? There's too few of these cars to get an average price on them.
But the 'smile' factor in the end is worth it, this car runs like a f***ing gorilla on the road!

My opinion is that these cars are not worth that much more than a regular 928, to most 928 enthusiasts. If you try to sell the car to most 928 people, they would rather pay less, and get a really nice, stock 928 in great shape.
The only reason to buy a widebody 928, is if you really want one.
If you want to build one yourself, or get a Jacquemond kit, you will have
to pay for a good 928, and then pay $10,000-15,000 for the kit, bodywork,
paint, wide wheels, and tires, etc... So if you are contemplating building
one yourself, buying one is a great deal. But don't expect that most 928
owners and enthusiasts will be willing to pay a lot more, just because
your car has a body kit on it. They might pay $5,000 more, but never
enough to make up for the cost of the conversion....
