I have read the posts on steering racks and believe mine needs to be replaced. There is steering fluid making large puddles under the drivers side linkage. There is no indication of leakage above the steering rack. The drivers side boot has tares in two places and both are dripping with fluid. Before I spend $800 on a rebuilt steering rack, I thought I would ask this forum if there are any last double checks.

You have done the double checks. When fluid is coming out of the boot(s) at a level the owner finds unacceptable, then the rack needs to be replaced. This may be a drip or three a day, or a half quart a week.

if the fluid is in the boot, it is coming from the seal that is in the end of the rack. It wont fix it self or get better, it will only get worse. You may as well rebuild it as soon as possible. But if you can find a drive train, cv joint, steering rack shop locally, you can have them rebuild it . Most all of them handle ZF products, and have their parts available. I just had mine rebuilt for $200.

I purchased a re-built rack from 928 International, last month. The service was excellent. The rack arrived within three days, and the deposit for the core exchange was handled promptly. I could not have been more satisfied!

Have it sorted out as soon as possible it can suddenly give in without worning.
Mine was wet but I never noticed any drops when parked, then when about 600km from home on a weekend trip to the coast it gave in. It lost all fluid in about 2km.
As there was now shop open over the weekend and I had to be back at work on the Monday I had no choice but to cut the V-belt and drive it home without Power assistance - quite a job with the engine weight.

I tried both my imac and ibook and can't get there with either. It must be a setting somewhere that's the problem. I just tried after emptying my cache and it still won't load the page. All the links work. I just can't access mail order central.

A few year ago my mechanic put a rebuilt one in my '82. I suggested he get it from Mark but NOOOO he had to get it from his regular supplier. Now it is leaking again! And I can't find the reciept/warrenty!
