Default Engine connector question

Hello all, newbie question, I've searched to no avail.
86.5 engine bay plug just behind and below the crossbar, 2 prong female plugs onto male.
While searching I noticed it was unplugged, plugged it in, haven't fired the car up today will wait out of curiosity.
 Thanks

I think you will find that it is a 3 prong, and it goes to the Throttle position switch on the throttle body.

You are correct, when I last parked it (70 mile drive) it was running great, I need to research what this switch does now. Thank you

The switch is a critical part of engine management as it tells the ECU's which fuel and ignition map settings to use when: at idle, cruse and full throttle.

Thank you again, plugged the 2 connectors back together went on a 20 mile drive, idle, acceleration and cruising is all good.

Hi Ed, after hearing what it was I surprised too.
Hopefully someone will chime in as to why it ran well unplugged, unless it just happen to pop off after the 70 miles. Checked it after the drive today and it was still connected.
