Default drivers side wheel well

Can someone post some pictures and descriptions of the components in the drivers side wheel well with the inner covers removed (forward and aft)? I went to Tony's v1uhoh site but he only has the passenger side shown. It seems that my car has been in an accident in that area before I got it and there seems to be something missing. There is a 2-3" hose in the forward part of the well which is not hooked to anything. Also, there is only one vacuum line coming off the four-way near the brake booster. John Pirtle's site indicates there should be a y-connector with two lines going to this wheel well (cruise control and vacuum reservoir). I am losing vacuum during acceleration and thought this may be the problem.

Thanks

The forward hose should connect to your alternator housing for cooling.

One end of the hose does connect to the alternator housing...what does the other end connect to? Why is it in the LH wheel well?

There is the fender liner, then a heavier, plastice pc that connects in front of the wheel, sealing off the front fender area. The hose connects to the backside of this "panel" before it is installed. Your hose should have a 180 deg turn in it that an M shaped bracket fits to then attaches to the panel. No coffee yet this morning so this may not make sense.

I think it makes sense. The bracket was laying in the botton of the wheel well.

Where do the two vacuum lines go coming from the 4way connector? One of them goes to the reservoir which I suppose is the "bumpy" black part on the right of the picture. What about the other one?

You will have less vacuum when the throttle opens. If it makes your A/C system act funny, then I'd venture the leak is behind the pod. Do check the engine bay first; much easier to get at!

Mike

I have to leave but if you haven't got a reply when I return I will look in the manuals and post.

The bracket which holds the alternator cooling hose (180 degree turn) mounts to the front cover horizontally. Does the open end of the hose supposed to point up or down. How is this supposed to get cooling air for the alternator when it is not in the airstream?

John Pirtle's "vacuum actuator" section shows a y-connector coming out of the 4way near the brake booster. He says that one line is for the reservoir and the other is for cruise control. I only have a single line coming out of this 4way. It looks like it goes to the reservoir. Is this correct? Should I have two lines? If so, where does the other one go?

Mike:

The cruise control is electronic and takes no vacuum in the MY88 and later cars. My 89 has no Y-connector as shown in John's 87. You (and I) should only have one line.

Thanks! I just found the same info in the 928 manual. One more question I have about the electric cruise control module.

There is one large plug connected to a harness, but in the same area there are two connectors not hooked to anything. What do these do? I cannot find anywhere to hook these up to. I think I see them hanging off the car in the picture above.

Open end points down. The wheel well is an area of relatively cool, clean, dry air. The fan on the alternator pulls air through it.

I believe those are the European side marker light wires.

They wire them all the same. I'll bet some folks outside the US wonder what those wires are below the headlights.
