I know this subject has probably been beaten to death, but I found a relatively inexpensive LED headlight / enclosure combination that provides ample light and a decent pattern IMHO. The cost is under $120.00 for everything.
I had started with some Hella HB2 enclosures but really didn't like the pattern as it was wedge shaped and had dark spots in the middle no matter how the lights were aimed or what bulbs I used (LED, Halogen, ...). I then tried some far less expensive enclosures that ended up working well. I had to run ballast resistors in parallel with the LED lights because my lights would intermittently cut out without them.
I was initially concerned that this setup might blind oncoming traffic, but I have ten or so hours of driving with them on (a good portion of that on two lane roads with no streetlights) and I've yet to have someone flash their brights at me.
The only thing I didn't like about this setup was the appearance of the lens, but I'm going to function over form in this case.
This is really great (for me too) Ethan.
Nice and bright but not blinding.
Your install looks professional as well.
Bravo!
Thanks Shirah. I need to shorten up the wires for the ballast resistors so it's a bit more tidy. I'd still like to find an enclosure that looks more like the stock sealed beam but has a pattern at least as good as the cheaper enclosures I'm using. I'll keep looking.
