Default Outer Window Seals..not that hard

Just did two in <30min.

"soap" can mean a lot of things to different people, but glycerin...remember that from 8th grade science and rubber stoppers/parts? That's the magic.

If that's a factory wiper, you are a god! That job takes us hours and hours.
If that's an aftermarket one, it will "pop out" every other time you lower and raise the window.

Yup, new outta the box Katie sent.

I was on the 'soapy water' route, and the guy i'm helping with this car works in a lab..and of course had a bottle of glycerin soap on hand from work..lots of uses there he says, and 'doesnt dry' like dish soap & water which gets sticky quickly.

Holy crap...that back curved bit was a push or two, but the rest went in AT the speed shown. And I never really noticed that this was a 2pc assembly before.

Glycerin is used in the culinary world as a preservative.

Just be sure not to use too much or else things really start to move...

Kind of like how the seal slides right into the groove in this video!

Its qualities as a suppository are critical in making this good for installing seals. Nice discovery!

FWIW if you use the DC111 in the groove and then wipe some on that little rib,
the seal goes right in,
and the rubber will stay soft after a few years in the sun.

I was also initially struggling to get these in until I finally figured out that I had to bend back the top of the rubber so that it would catch on the top lip. After I got the trick I was able to get them in and out in about 5 minutes each. That said, they come off way too easily when the windows are rolled down. I tried spraying alcohol everywhere to remove the "slipperiness" from the wd40 I had used. Its a bit better, but still not happy with how easy they pop off.

PanamaImport ,

NOTE if you have the factory window seals they will have to be levered out of the grooves to remove them.

Based on your report you have the aftermarket seals ,
these will work but you must be careful when using the window as the window can drag these seals off the door edge .
Also resting your arm on the seal with the window down can push it off its seat, easy to fix by pressing it back into position.

NOTE I found that its a good idea to put a few coats of car wax on the windows, them wipe off with a microfiber towel
then the wax will help the window slide past the seals without dislodging them.
NOTE this is more for the aftermarket seal but it also helps with the factory seal.

NOTE smearing DC111 on the top surface of the seal that the sun shines on will preserve it either the old original or the new seals

That's a good tip. I will try it. Thanks.

That’s very elegant. When I installed factory seals I think I used some silicone spray on them, and they went in pretty easily by starting near the lock then sliding the seal towards front of car. I did have the inner seal and felt window rollers removed to create lots of space.

Thanks Jeff. I'm thinking glycerin would probably help with wire grommets too. A couple have been really stubborn about going in.

How about some detail on getting the glass out, and back into the door with the new upper seal installed? Getting the steel window attachment past the new seal without damaging it is... scary.

Andrew to remove the glass,
the2 felt pad guides s and the inner top edge seal of the door must be removed,
then the window will easily slide out
NOTE put a piece of blue tape over the outer window seal to protect it from the window frame rubbing on it

On the way back in, use a plastic wedge to help the seal..and take your time going around the window grommets.
