Pic request for 85 - 86 Stock suspension on 18" wheels
Helllo folks, I don't know if all the OB's shared the same suspension so I asked for 85 or 86 as I have an 86.5 car. I'm wondering how these cars look with 18's and lowered on stock suspension. Mine looks like a 4 x 4 but I've never actually driven the car yet and people say the suspension will settle down quite a bit.
Any of you have 18's with a lowered stance on your stock suspension? Love to see a pic if so!

Careful on lowering..lots of tradeoffs, some can be terminal..and it'll handle better at OE height.
I ran 18" Carrera 3's for awhile on my 85, but now run 17" Cup 1's. The 928 is ideally suited (and designed for) for 17" wheels, from a performance standpoint. The 18's actually look a bit too big to me as well, but that is very subjective. Also, be aware that there are suspension differences between the 85/86 and the 86.5, which the latter has the S4 suspension upgrades, among many other things - see: https://rennlist.com/forums/928-foru...-1986-5-a.html.
Ok, thanks for all the replies on this. These pics look much better than mine and I realize now that it's just an unsettled suspension issue.
The Meteor Gray 86.5 happens to have the Carrera III wheels that I will have on the car and looks great. @linderpat I agree with you and given the choice between an 18" Carrera III vs 17" I would definitely choose the 17 but none available. I'll give it a try with the 18's and keep the chrome 17" twists incase I decide against it.
Again thanks for the pics and sorry for the somewhat late reply.
The car was engineered for 17" and many that have installed 18"s prefer the 17"s. Also look under your car and take a good look at the AC compressor and how close it is to the next speed bump.
If you happen to tag it the bracket will most likely go thru the block which will cause an oil leak. These are 17" Cayman wheels. Here in pot hole California replaceable wheels are important.

That looks good as well. Didn't these cars actually come with a 16" wheel?
If anything the 18 would be lifting overall clearance slightly, correct? Mostly I wanted the huge wheel gap between the top of the front tires and the fender closed some. Not as concerned with overall height from the road. Just didn't want the 4 x 4 look I have now which based on pics should settle out with driving.

Only if you choose the incorrect size tire
Stock 928 tire sizes:
225/50-16
245/45-16
225/45-17
255/40-17
All four of those sizes are 25" in overall diameter.
Going to an 18" wheel, if you stick with these sizes, the diameter will be the same or really close
225/40-18
235/40-18
245/35-18

265/35-18
275/30-18
285/30-18

The distance from the underside of the fender to the top of the tire should be about 2 fingers. I agree that a lower front looks good but the handling suffers. I had to go to 17" wheels because we put GTS "big blacks" calipers and the 16"s would no longer fit. IMO the ultimate wheels are the Augment 17" phone dials. The are on my list. Keep in mind that 18's are heavier...

One more thing..the rears on my car are 255/40. I don't need a wider tire and I have 440#'s of torque
