Default Fuel gauge issue

My fuel gauge is only reading empty, and the red light is on
i replaced the sending unit with the 944 unit, but still no joy with the gauge
yes, there is gas in the tank, about 7 gallons
any thoughts on where else to check?
the connection at the sending unit is nice and clean
is there a way to put power to the sending unit connection and see if there is any movement at the gauge?

My Low Fuel Light comes on around 5 gallons and my indicator reads empty, was the same on both my 85 and now my 86.5. I would suggest adding more fuel and see what happens.

Otherwise remove the sender and tilt it up so the float moves with the key on run
observe the gauge
NOTE its possible the needle will stick on its internal stop,
this will sometimes stop if the car is used more frequently

I just wish I knew why mine was wildly inaccurate from time to time..and the temp gauge.

Last thing is check if a foil edge connector is dirty..but..its all new/cleaned.

NOTE on the back of the gauges there are 7mm nuts holding the black pin holders to the gauges,
if these are corroded or loose the gauge will not work properly

Yup, when the new foil went in 18mo ago, all were off cleaned, etc, etc..

These 2 gauges were not happy before this, and doing this work did not change their behaviour.

Sender is new from GB stock as well.

you might need to get a used pod and swap the gauges
