Default Sunroof woes

I took my sunroof panel out to repaint it and replace the seal. No problems there.

The problem is that I can't get it to go back. I've dropped the panel back in, bolted it (loosely) back up but it just won't shut. I haven't put the gearbox and motor back in but just pushing it forward there is a little bit of daylight along parts of the front edge and it won't push fully up at the rear.

Should I just carry on and fit the motor or have I missed something?

I've had the thing back out a couple of times and stretched the seal tighter.

Don't get me wrong. It's damn close. It just won't quite push up level at the rear edge and there's a tiny bit of daylight at the front. Like it won't quite go far enough forward.

There's no big gaps - all you're going to see is the panel a touch too low at the rear edge.

is the roof clearing the front edge stop?
you may have to raise the front edge of the roof a bit so it will close .

Otherwise if you fitted a new seal then your gonna have to force the roof closed then let it bake in the sun for a few weeks so the seal will reform,
I put a lil bit of DC 111 on the edge of the car side of the roof to help the seal slide into position.
I suspect the new seals are a bit wider than the originals and thus wont fit into the roof

Yes, without some stretching I could never get the new OE trim to allow the very low power motor to let the panel close. It's fat as he** for the space available..the motor/trans/etc cant in any way "compress" the trim to the space it has to fit into. Especially in the rear in that last step of the roof closing.

I must admit that I didn't really notice a front edge stop... I'll go and have another look. Yeh - the seals could be just tight. I live in Scotland so "baking in the sun" isn't a thing

What's DC111?
