Thoughts on the internal state of my engine? (16v twin distributor)

^^ Don't forget that is always changing with each new batch of parts Porsche gets. Why they cannot stick with an established specification we'll never likely know (probably $$$).
Back on topic. Rings are cheap. Stick in some new ones. The 951 (944 turbo) rings are probably your best bet with their single piece oil control ring and non tapered compression rings.
At minimum you should do the rod bearings (again, cheap) if you don't feel comfortable splitting the block and doing mains (you'll have to clean the sludge traps in the crank if split the block).

I asked the mechanic for some photos of the heads. I'll post as soon as I get them.
The cylinders are being honed as we speak. The rod bearings were apparently showing some wear (as I have been told). Nothing problematic, but will be good to be renewed altogether.

On a separate note I trust your workshop understand that they are working on an alusil engine block and understand the correct procedure as to how to work on such.
