Looking for someone that has some insight on my issue. I have 1984 928S. It is in the process of getting some minor bodywork done. I needed to replace one of the taillight assemblies. I found somewhere that had a new one available, actually both sides new, so I ordered them and brought them to the body shop. Well, small issue, they are the correct period, but... My original taillights have the 7 pole socket with 5 poles in it, with 2 wires coming off of two of the poles, into another 2 pole connector housing. The new tailights, both have the 7 pole socket, but... the right taillight has only the socket with 5 poles, no other wires spit off into another connector. The left taillight has the 2nd connector, but only 3 poles leading into the 7 pole socket. I'm trying to research them, but I'm not finding anything. I was hoping that maybe I could just swap out the wiring altogether, but that is looking like a no-go. Are there different setups for the wiring for different years? (86 and lower). New right taillight New left taillight Old taillight Writing from car Wiring from back of old taillight assembly 7 pole connector (with 5 poles) with wired 2 pole connector New 7 pole connector with only 3 poles, additional 2 pole connector not wired to 7 pole.

Hmmm, I’m guessing your car is a USA model with side marker lights. The new set might be for ROW. A part number would be helpful on the new set. Double check part numbers with the PET.
You can see in the flow chart the optional side marker lights for option M215 and M553 USA model.
