Default Adjusting Gap Out of Headlight Housing

On the ‘79, how can you adjust the gap out of the headlight bucket housing? Can you adjust the rod that connects to the ball & socket and then realign the headlights?

I couldn’t find the proper part in the PET. See my crude mark-up below. The red line is the rod that can’t be seen.

Pull that wheel, the well liner, and have a peek up there while moving it.

Thought….

Isn’t the gap there to allow the headlight movement when you have the euro height adjustment installed? All 928s I have seen (without the headlight adjustment) have that gap there.

I am confident this is by design as the housing needs to move in 3 different positions when the adjuster is fitted (as in some RoW cars - specially Euro). Again, I have never seen a US spec cars in any other position (again since adjustment is static). My 5c.

There are 3 screws that hold the housing on. Make sure they are all there and properly seated. The top screw hole is a speed nut (IIRC) and if it moves, the cowl could be out of alignment. That inside screw is tricky to get to and make sure that hole is properly aligned with its hole.

Ed,

When installing the housing, always start with making sure the screws are into the speed nut but loose. Next step is to make sure the front guide tongues are in place, then hold then cover and tighten the screws. Very easy with a shorty screw driver (specially on the outer screws).

Old car tip: Put a dab of silicone sealant on the those screws, it keeps them from vibrating loose as if you over tighten them they can and will pull through the old plastic cover.
This also works for the Fog / driving light black plastic trim.
The sealant allows you to snug them up w/out over tightening and is easily to unscrew as it doesn't harden.
