Does the choice of Ignition Wires (spark plug wires) matter?

I’m running a 1986, 928 and I damaged one of the spark plug wires. Fortunately, Roger at 928srus rescued me. But this begs the question, is there a difference between the $250 vs $440 spark plug wires?

Generally speaking, the thicker wires have less resistance, resulting in a better spark. A better spark may provide additional horse power. Most wires have EMI and RFI suppression but the trick there is to have just enough suppression. And so the question, I can buy wires made by Karlyn, Standard Motor, NGK, Bremi or use the original wire (as made for me by Roger); but is there really any difference provided that I do not go too cheap on the wires?

IMHO, no.
Thicker isnt less resistance, there is a spec on resistance, it's not a race to 0, so to speak.

If you had the right tools and ends, you could use almost any bulk wire.

Thread on tools and ends...the ENDS are the important part.

FWIW, a set of ends will work forever without corrosion, bulk wire and ends makes a $450 set of wires extreeeeemely cheap.

My wires were 34yrs old when one developed a problem..with care they can last nearly forever.

Which brings up another question:
What is the proper routing of wires on an '86(1/2)?
There are many different approaches in pictures I've seen.
Some even seem to have 1 & 4 switched.
Anyone got good pics of routing on an 86.5?

Beru wires are here common.

Just go ahead and spend the extra money on the Beru's. You won't regret it, and is exactly what I've done when replacing wires - money well spent.

As said, The correct Ends are most important for resistance AND fitment.
I've seen many that don't correctly seal into the Cam covers and let water in, or don't clamp onto the Spark plug's (this can be verified by the top of the ends not going into the cam covers, they should be slightly indented on an S4).

I agree with Karsten, BERU wires and BERU sparkplugs are the ones that you need.
The BERU spark plugs are also much more reliable and less sensitive to carbon residu during combustion. (I am talking about KJET engine combustion)

in the posted pictures the screw clips are missing,
these hold the wires in a loop see the phillips screws on the cam covers
Roger has these clips

Default 85-86 Ignition Wire Routing

I scoured the net in search of factory routing and found some close but they all had a little something wrong, including mine.
Sure would like to see a factory illustration including separator clamps and jacket positioning.
Here's how mine turned out:
