Default HVAC flap/setting/vent motor squeal fix or replace?

My car is punishing me for not driving it since October. I have the classic mixing motor squeal when I move the temperature slider and first turn the ignition key.

I have searched and found some people saying they fixed this and others saying just replace. Either way this tall 66 year old will be enjoying quality time under the dash. However, I have not been able to find any detail on how to fix the squeal rather than just replacing the part. The list of things I would rather spend 200 dollars on is fairly long.

Thanks

Otto,

So sorry to hear that. Nicht gute., as that lack of perfection may cost you votes at 'The Swap Meet'. !!

Well, I've got another 20 years on you, but have a lot less height and a little less volume than you. But I still DO NOT enjoy time under the dash of any car.

Good luck (have you thought of telling Robin how to do the repair???).

Gary

When you hear the price of a new unit, you'll try to fix it first.
Take the box out, lubricate the gears, clean the contacts with a white eraser.
I would replace the transistors too, this should give you many years of headache free service.
