Default Bowden lever stuck!

86.5 Auto. Car runs good and drives. Never had any issues with tranny, and had not messed with it or anything nearby.

I came out this morning and car started as usual, but the gas pedal all of a sudden won’t move! I poked around for the cause and found that my Bowden cable was completely stuck and won’t move. So, it binds up the whole cable assembly…making it immovable and thus even the linkage to the throttle body won’t move either. I disconnected the Bowden cable off the cable assembly and sure enough ithat cable (that goes back to the tranny at other end) does not budge! I saw no kinks or anything unusual about the cable as it proceeds under the hood.

I haven’t a chance yet to get the car up on lift and investigate the lever where the cable attaches to the tranny, which is next step.

But preliminarily, what do you think would cause this? I fully expect to find that the lever at the tranny is stuck, but not sure what’s next.
Thanks…always something new on a 928!

2 things I can think of .
One has the car gotten wet where the bowden cable could have gotten water in it?
if so the cable could have rusted and failed inside the housing maybe near the front bell housing.

Second thought,
the return spring inside the pan has somehow jammed the lever inside the trans.
To verify either one your gonna need to see if you can pull the mounting collar out of the transmission .
leave the cable off the throttle quadrant to test .

At worst you have to replace the whole cable and housing .

OR easier is to drop the pan and replace the spring or some other issue inside the pan.

NOTE a lift is a great asset here

Another possible scenario, though less likely (happens on 914 throttle cables), is that if one of the primary grounds is compromised, the electrical path will find the next best ground on it's own and if current starts flowing through a cable, it can melt the inner plastic sheathing and completely bind the cable. Disconnect the transmission side and see if the arm moves or is frozen. If the arm moves, then the issue is in the cable itself and you should check and clean any grounds from the engine and transmission to the chassis.
