I took mine to the Post Office and Priority Mailed it to 928 Intl with $1000 of insurance (was my only key) and got it and two just like it back about a week and a half later. The two new keys are a little stiff in the locks and ignition but both work just fine, with a little more use they will most likely loosen up a bit.

Do a search for Tony Eugiano (sp) out of the Philly area. You would need to send him yours though. I've had about 8-10 keys cut by him and he never had to do a recut/refit.
But any P-car dealer should be able to help.
Or I think 928 Int offers the service.

This might take a while,,, depending on your dealer, but you can take a copy of your title down to your dealer and they will have one made. I guess it must be a factory key because I know my dealership doesn't know the First thing about 928's.

I'm not sure the dealer will help you. I tried both Porsche dealers in Denver and they both said that Porsche does not offer that service on 928 keys any longer due to their "uniqueness."

As was mentioned we have a key cutting machine (standard machine) It does have the "special" angle holders (about $150) which is what is needed to copy keys . Very few locksmiths see enough 928s to justify buying the adapter and stocking key blanks . The key by Vin number is a new key made by Porsche in Atlanta by the original key codes . Dealers who do order them often charge $80 -100 and unfortunately far too often they do not work !

Don't take it to the dealer. They took 3 months and 3 tries to get it right for me. That, and they treat you like a second-class citizen.
P-car dealers suck.

I had keys made for my '94 GTS using the local Porsche dealer, the VIN number and proof that it was my car. They sent the info to Porsche NA in Atlanta. I got the alarm key and valet (red) key made, which took about 6 weeks. The alarm key doesn't work the rear hatch or the passenger door as does the original key.
Since I paid $150 for this service, I will have the dealer contact Porsche NA again and let them try to get it right. The valet key seems to work just fine.
Best bet is to send it to 928 International or use Tony Euganeo.

I got some blanks from eBay and found a local locksmith who would copy my key. That way I didn't risk losing my key in the mail and we could try it in my car right away. It worked on the first try but not very smoothly. He took it back inside a couple more times and filed on it until it worked smoothly. Cost - $50. Most major cities should have a locksmith with the skill and equipment to copy your key if you supply the blanks.
