Default Spare tire

I have an 89 and bought a missing spare tire but even though it’s the red cast aluminum (928) part number it seems just a bit to big to fit in the opening. Do I have the wrong one?

The original in my '91 is a very tight fit. So tight that when re-installing it after being removed I have to make sure and line up the two "flat spots" at the 11 o'clock and 3 o'clock positions so that it will go back in.

Possibly - the later GTS cars have a bigger dish to fit over the larger rotors but these are not 928 part numbers. What is your part number? GTS spare wheels are marked 6.5Jx16H2ET30 and 965.362.130.01. More likely you have the right part and there is too much air in it. You will need to use a ratchet strap (maybe 2) or a vacuum pump to get all the air out and get the diameter down. Even then it is still a tight fit.

Both my '86.5 have really tight spares. I can say there is no rattling about though!

My 89 didn't come with a spare, just a trunk full of stereo equip. Have removed the equip but wondering if I even need a spare. Won't most of the tires be past their prime if you buy a used one? And I think spare tires are uber expensive to replace with new. So I'm thinking why bother? Been toying with the idea to put my new amp in the spare tire well. It should fit to where I can still open battery door. My other 2 Porsches don't have spares and that hasn't been an issue.

Same here thinking I really don’t need it in there. I plan to just drive locally for the most part anyway. I plan to sell it when so find the right buyer but so keep sorting out all the little things and details.

When I had to deal with reinstalling the spare back into the storage area and after trying multiple ways others in the shop suggested,I made up a set of fittings that connected the spare to my a/c vacuum pump. Never again did I ever have an issue getting a inflatable spare back into a 928 or 944.
On the thought of no spare, its not an issue until you need it..
While I wouldn't recommend doing any driving on a 30 plus year old inflatable spare except for low speed for a very short distance, it sure would be handy to put on the vehicle for loading it on a rollback, where that extra 3 to 4 inches would stop the spoiler from being torn off and dropping the car off so it can be maneuvered into the driveway, garage or workshop

Exactly. I bought an old S4 rim and installed a full size (but narrower) tire of the exact same wheel diameter.
If I ever go beyond Orlando I throw it in the trunk
