Default Got the '86 back!

Well, I got my '86 back from the shop today and here is the verdict:

Non-working A/C is the ac microswitch. A small problem but pretty expensive to fix. I told them to leave it like it is for now.

All electrical problems (sunroof, drivers seat, rear wiper, etc..) fixed with fuses and switches. Pretty cheap fix.

Rough running/missing problem- they checked plugs and wires and said they look great. It is not a "dead miss" but more of a hesitation or stumbling. He says to do what you all suggested, run some good injector cleaner through it and drive the pi$$ out of it for a day or two.

All in all, you guys were right about everything but the ac (and you weren't really WRONG about that), so bravo! Just wanted to thank those of you who talked me down from my "this car is going on ebay TODAY!" state of mind and to keep you posted. I still plan to sell it, but maybe after I enjoy it for a while.

Just a small commentary on the AC microswitch.

If you let the ac stay idle for an extended length of time, you may be forced to later spend even more money on new seals and orings, as they have dried out and begun to leak. While the money spent now is high, it might be woth it in order to save spending that and more later.

Just a thought. Glad to hear a cheerier tune on the car. Seems to be the case often, here. Lots of love mixed with a few grains of pure misery from time to time.

You have the same fickle reaction to you wife?

Mine is a high maintenance girl, she would be a nervous wreck if I showed that kind of reluctance to stick with something through thick and thin....

I mean the wife, no, the car....no, well actually......both of them......

Glad you got a grip man.............

Now do as you were told.

bergstsm-
I have a friend who has an '85 euro (that is a FAST car) but he has the same a/c problem and his car is being used as a test subject for our local (good) auto electric guy. He is developing a micro switch that shoud be abou 1/3 as expensive as the $1k switch out there now. Hopefully, we'll know something about that next week.

Gretch-
I actually used to be that way about women untill I met my wife 17 years ago (well, shortly thereafter, anyway!) We've been married for 12 years. I guess she is like that mystical C4s. Maybe once I find IT, my search will be over.

Jim_H-
I plan to! Starting in about 2 hours!

For that microswitch, you should check the big three suppliers and see, how much less they sell it for. It's probably not as bad as you think. Many mechanics quote you Porsche prices on parts that you can get for a lot less elsewhere.

Car is driving great! Still just a slight hesitation/loss of power but it gets better every time I nail it. I plan to take my mechanics (and everyone here's) advice, though. I don't drive the car nearly enough to keep it running properly. I am going to go ahead and list it on Ebay. I'm going to look for another nice 951 or 968. I do love what the 928 is, but for a once a week car, I'll be better off with less car, I think. If you know of any nice 951s or 968s pass them along, especially if you know someone who wants to trade!
Thanks,

Paul,

Would you trade it for an 81 931 with a one bar boost?

Denis,
I wouldn't be adverse to talking about a trade for a 931. I have absolutely no idea how to value that car, but I have some friends I can call tomorrow and they will give me a clue. Do you have any pictures? Is the car in really nice shape? It's not another one that I have to drive every 30 minutes like this one is it? Here is the link to my auction:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...478981745&rd=1

It tells the story on my car and there are some pictures. I also have an engine shot and a shot where I tried to show the paint flaw on the front fender, but it doesn't really show up very well. If you have any shots of your 931, shoot them over to me at pauldobbs@hotmail.com or if the file is large, you can send them to pauld@asapstaffing.com

My phone number is on the auction so feel free to call me if you'd like.

Talk soon!
