"Cant say "race car" without a log book in hand.."

Of course, but without anyone mandating safety equipment and performing independent inspection...race under an LLC.
Fewer and fewer "organizations" are able to do these things without regimented procedures, because everytime someone gets hurt somewhere, they lose insurance coverage.

By -far- the gold standards are SCCA and NASA.

"riveted on fenders" Have you ever watched a RAUH WELT video?

For this kind of car it is precisely the fenders that they got right, great compound curves that look good on a 928 for extreme design exercise. Just 3 more inches of rear tire.

"Forget "racing" if you are not in Formula 1 (and a couple others) you are NOT a race car driver. Just a hobbyist. Archie the pigeon is a great example"

Oh boy...a racing elitist...

You'Re NoT A ReAl Race Car Driver....

What ever.

Wheel to wheel for a $12 trophy in any car, is racing.

Show me your F1 car.

Compare this exercise to the Factory effort. The factory car looks ugly with that dragging rear end, the pumpkin will be sparking. it's faster blah blah

Look in the motorcycle thread to see my R1, faster than any 4 wheeler club racer and a lot more dangerous the way I rode it. drop the mitty complex

There's a lot of poetic license in this car, especially with the Mobile and Sunoco logos all over a Gulf livery inspired color scheme. Humor too I guess. It's just too busy for me... BUT I LOVE the intake under glass. I always appreciated seeing the non S4 intakes so why not break up that Bauhaus slab of a hood with some mechanical / visual intrigue.

I liked it, but I liked it as a DE car for local track days. Easy to work on, plenty of power for what it is. But I only liked it at used track 944 money, which is what I bid. It is beyond what I'd pay now. I still like it though.

I must admit I'm attracted to this car......I see it as a great exercise in taking a 5sp beater and skirting all the expensive restoration issues, such as, all the interior pieces. Just gut it and paint it, throw a dash cap over the pod, bend some aluminum, add a few gauges. The cage as Jeff says most likely would not get thru tech and like Rob says it's heavy. Forget adding a fuel cell. No race car worth a salt has an undercarriage this filthy. I raced vintage cars ( Lotus Cortina/ Alfa Romeo for about 20+ years and this is not a race car by any means. I do think it's a real attention getter to just haul it around on an open trailer. Just don't wear your driving suit when driving the tow vehicle.
Racecar spelled backwards is racecar

My .02...

As the owner of the Coca Cola track car that Constantine developed and AO re-worked. I can say that these stripped out 928's are a blast to own and take to HPDE's, Club Race's, cars-n-coffee or local car shows.

My wife loves it when I drive it to a show and let kids jump in the drivers seat just to watch their eyes light up and parents take pictures. A little scent of race fuel perfuming the air... Sometimes it's not about how fast it goes, how pure it is, but how much fun it is.

Sure the Coke car does have a log book and is actually well developed as a racer, but I'd never expect to be seriously competitive without a major investment in anything but a HPDE "Which ain't racing" its just great fun for those of us that want to take our skills to the next level or preserve our skills.

Big smiles regardless! And smiles are what it is all about!

Smiles and *******...
