Default Achtung!!! Achtung!!! (Autotrans Rebuild)

Attention. Thank-you for all the advice! You can all go back to your jobs and familiies now. Oh, and Mr.Steve Catteneo I just cancelled your airline ticket. Can I believe it! - I figured out the positioning of the upgraded teflon B-2 brake band piston bushing and on and on and on. I find it hard to believe with over 73% of our cars automatic ,that there is such little knowledge of the automatic transmission on this forum! How can so many owners out there have had transmission anomolies and called someone elese to fix their problem. You know it's not rocket science but I wish it were." Verner Von Braun". rocks. With over 5 weeks of frustration of T.M.I -not!!!!! ,I plan to get gloriously drunk this weekend on white wine and whisky/ seperate glasses. In celebration that I basically rebuilt, upgraded and fixed my automatic transmission myself. TA-DA!! .. So now it's BMWAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!! and hopefully this weekend it wont be BAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRFFFFFFFF!!!!!!!! If anyone out there has any transmission problems ,I understand your pain and frustration. Post/Email me and I promise to help you with your problem. Just give me a little time . Yours truly ,a 928 lover Mike. OH yeah! Robert Goddert rocks also,I'm a canadian and an American patriot as well. Perhaps this will get me more reply's. Thanx !

So what did you have to do with your tranny? What parts got replaced? What supplier did you use?

Very commendable.

I have always been afraid of auto transmissions.

Mpesik: The reason there is so little info is that people don't write up the issue under a descriptive title in the re line. Before you kill all those brain cells, curious minds want to know.

mpesik I will save the congrats until your car is on the road and you get some miles on the rebuilt tranny.

mine needed to be rebuilt as well, but I elected to have a pro do the work
for a few reasons.

1 I do not have the time.
2 the pro see trannies day in and day out, and knows what to look for.
3 they know the little tricks that can really add up. (did you replace the
torq converter bearing, seals etc?
4 warranty.
5 trannies are very complicated...a small piece of dirt can really F... things up.

It takes guts to go where few will tread, Good luck :-)

and please keep us posted

Maybe its because they are so reliable to begin with. If they dont break, you dont have to fix them, right!

The PO ran the car with low fluid. when the tranny shop had it opened up I stopped by and looked it over, very toasted bands etc the
wrench knew a grat deal about our trannies, he said they are very good trannies.......I get a nice "churp out of 2nd when I push it..hehehe.

Most of us would shudder at opening up an auto box. My local Porsche wrench does all his own auto work on site - says he can dismantle one on the bench inside an hour, and have it back together in 4 - showed me the B2 piston stuff the other day.

Mike,
So you what to be an apprentice, well here are your assignments, why did I recommend the use of Vaseline instead of grease? Describe how a Mercedes Benz 722.3/ A28 transmission works? You have one week to complete the task.

Part #1 : Gelated petroleum is not only miscible, but is completely soluble in Dexron: in the case of grease, only the carrier fluid is miscible - leaving the actual grease free to roam and plug up a host of minute passages, orfices, check valves and screens.
Mike, this may - or may not be correct! However, I am very much looking forward to your operating description of the A28 (Part #2) , so will do what I can to clear any distractions and make sure you have a full and uninterupted week to work on it. Can hardly wait .....
