If you do it in your side yard, it can probably be much less than what you are currently thinking, but my '88 engine has been sitting completed for 6 months or a year and waiting to be dropped back in. Partly because I am getting older and the thought of wrestling it back in the hole is that that attractive, and part because I know there is always a chance I have screwed something up and I just don't want to know.

Basically, right now you know you need head gaskets, because all 928s need head gaskets right now. Obviously, while you are in there, you will do bearings, rings, valve guides, etc. However, realistically, there is gonna be a bunch of other stuff that crops up too. If you have Greg do it, he will just handle the surprises (and charge you for it ), but if you are doing it yourself you can really bog down.
I think I want someone more knowledgeable to rebuild the engine. I can pull it, I've swapped 2 32 valve engines in the past when they were more common.

I second using Greg, as he really isn't that far. It is ALWAYS better to have it done right once, vs unknown or un-928 knowledgeable mechanics-machinists work on your rare engine. You really have 2 options, pull engine yourself (locals can help you) and just ship the the engine to greg or ship the whole car to greg....shipping whole car is more money, but he will most likely find some little things while he is at it that need repair that you might overlook (fuel lines etc)

Kevin, might you be willing to part out just the transmission?

I really don't want to start taking it apart.

But, you can buy the car and part it out.

Why was it totaled?
How much, for the whole car?

Severe side impact. Followed by the worst reconstruction... ever.

They added a bottle opener on the B pillar.

$8500 is the ask.

How can the driver seat look like this with 42 k miles?
The price is more than ok!

Now that bottle opener option would have been at least $1500 from Porsche!

I don't it is the original seat. I suspect that the PO swapped it out. Never really cared because the drivetrain was what I was interested in.
