Default 928 S4 Boge front coilovers

I have a 1981 928 with the standard non-adjustable front coilovers. I was wondering if 928 S4 coilovers would fit. I found pair on ebay but the fitment guide said they would only fit 87-95.

Does anybody know why they would not fit?

I believe you need to change a few parts to use.

I think the front control arms from newer model. You might try 928 intl. They might know exactly what is needed. If you are good with search here there may be threads on what is needed. I kept everything on my '81 stock and it seems to work well. Hope this helps some.

I put S4 shocks on all four corners of my '79 with no problems (that I know of), though I did not use the stock springs. I used lower springs that were commonly available and widely used, though I don't remember the name and I am not sure they are around any more.

You will need different springs or the car will sit too high. You can also chop a coil of the top of the spring to make it shorter - not something I would recommend but plenty have done it.

Here's a video about a guy who's changing to the newer adjustable shocks. He doesn't exactly follow the servicemanual in the procedure but he gets it done. It looks a bit fiddly but the newer shocks seem to fit fine without changing anything else. Since I haven't done this myself I cannot guarantee that it works. I have myself bought a nice adjustable pair from a low mileage S4. I'm planning to do this swap on my 1983 928s in the following months...
