Ok,
I‘m at home!
First half of the journey I wake the car up. Austria is 130 km/h and in Bavaria the road was wet .
On the second half of the journey from Leipzig the road was dry and she has stretched her legs. Car has a very angry engine. Odometer goes up to 275 km/h, GPS shows 255 km/h , I think Porsches specs.
This was with open headlights and without the engine undercarriage. Shifting was good, sometimes first gear was stubborn.
I must contact the first owner for permission to get the Porsche invoices for the car history, car feels too good, I think he did a lot of expensive maintenance.
How is the car?
Odometer is broken.
Hood dampers and door stops are toast.
air condition is death but the hvac control looks new and is working
suspension is astonishing good, car runs straight
tires are old but not kaputt, in the front from 2007, in the back 2015, both axles full profile Conti sport contact. I think the car drove 5-10.000 km the last 10 years.
At high speed I lost coolant, drove 1200 km today and in the last quarter I must add water and at home also.
Should be investigated.
The engine has the typical lean shuttering at 2000 rpm at low power, S illness But not too bad.
The car is very clean inside, driver seat has a few spots from cigarettes between the bolsters, no water damage at the roof in the back.
I‘m lucky, better than expected!
The car isn‘t thirsty, she needs 14,1 l /100 km for the 1200 km. I started at 12:00 and had 5 stops, arrived 00:30. So I paused 3 hours.

Road trip home is a GREAT way to bond with a car

Glad you had an easy trip home without any critical issues popping up along the way.
When I bought my 1984 928S I played songs from 1984 all the way home.
Long road trips like this are a wonderful way to bond with your new car. you just settle in and let the miles/km roll past and get a good feel for the car.
928s have the most comfortable seats imaginable for a long road trip of many hours.
I drove mine back home the same way. Only stopped for gas. Long trip but really bonded tight with the car.
20 hr 20 min (1,378.2 mi) via I-10 E and I-20 E
Directions
---------------------------------
Sounds like you got yourself an outstanding car!
Engine sounds quite healthy too!
Good speed from a car that age.
It is in my mind the best exterior color for a 928 and the aqua green interior is something very unique and distinctive.
Great buy and I hope you a wonderful experience with your new 928!
Happy motoring!
MACHT SCHNELL!!!
Ich war im Deutshland im Bamberg im Bayern von funf und achtzig bis acht und achtzig in der Americaner Armee. Sehr viel patrollen on der Grenze. Deutshland ist sehr schon. Tchuss!

Hi Frank,
Greg told us Cars with a lot of miles but in good hands are maybe the runners and not the garage queen who is standing kaputt. This one likes the road for sure.
Cold war Germany was another time. We visit with the school Claas Berlin and try hard to spend the east mark you must exchange 1:1 against DM.
A little bit like North Korea was east Berlin.

Can't even imagine going to Berlin which was way inside the DDR (East Germany).
We used to look across the border and it was spooky because the roads were quiet.
No one went outside if they didn't have to because they were afraid of saying the wrong thing...no often times I wonder if we have done that to ourselves in America...you would see places where no lights were on because people had been taken from their homes in the middle of the night, just "disappeared"...

On a happier note I loved my time in Germay and when I was back in garrison I played on the Post SV Bamberg Bundesliga table tennis team.
I got to know Germany and the German people as teammates and friends.
Americans are friendly with strangers, but usually close to almost no one.
The Germans I knew were not as openly friendly to strangers, but if you got to know them and then you are all really close.
I remember a BEAUTIFUL Christmas Midnight Mass that Rudiger took me to in 1985. If you are ever in Bamberg and come across Rudiger Schlosser or Tomas Staudigel tell them I miss them and think of them often.
It was a great honor and privilege to play for them because as you know they only allow 1 auslander (foreigner) to play for each table tennis group that is sponsored and may have many teams in the different levels of the Bundesliga.
I always enjoyed how both teams would go to a local guesthaus after our team matches and drink a beer or 2 or 3.
I miss the rumpsteaks with garlic sauce and pommes frittes (french fries). Loved the Jagerschnitzel as well. Wonderful times and great memories!
Whenever I went on patrols I was there not only for my buddies that I went on patrol with, but also for the great German friends that embraced me as one of their own...

It is in fantastic shape!
You have a wonderful car there. Very well done!
I wanted a 928 since I saw them pop up those headlights in the left lane of the autobahn in the 80s.
Mine HAD to be Guards Red, but silver/grey is absolutely the best color for this beautiful automobile. Shows off the lines to absolute perfection and makes it look like the fine precision instrument it truly is.
"Porsche...there is no substitute"
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The great thing is you already have other 928s so you know when something is normal for a 928 and also when something is wrong with the car.
Always good to have something to compare it to!
Might be a hose leak and something that can be easily replaced. Hopefully nothing major.
But overall it looks like you got a great car for a good price!
