Aren't the 2 Brain plugs with all those wires going out from there to all the spots in the engine? MAF, injectors, temp sensors, flywheel?? Those brain plugs themselves should be messed with as little as possible. Are there not some wires also going from there to the CEB?

Like I said, I pulled my engine with the harness left draped over the side, but looking at wiring diagrams it sure seems like some of those wires make their way out there.

Also I once had to do all the electric testing with one of those meters with prongs and it seemed like they all had some connection down there. It's been a long time, a lot of water under the bridge.

The brain plugs are 1000x more stable/healthy than the engine bay side..supple as new...can certainly be unplugged.

one of the silver colored pieces inside 1 of the brains harness side plastic connectors was looking a little questionable last time I looked in their 2 years ago. I would not mess with that area VS. just taking off the connections in the engine bay as long as one has a tool for those thin wire clips that hold them in place.

Good ol Carl was at 1 brief time selling a quick disconnect for the harness at the firewall. Does anybody on here have 1?

That is a tough area to reach w/o a lift

Hi all, thanks for your input. Just to let everyone know that the engine removal has all gone smoothly - I disconnected the plugs from the ECU and CEB etc and pulled them out with the engine. By the way, I find putting sheets of cardboard down between engine and inner guard helps prevent odds and sods getting caught up as the engine rises, Ditto for installation.

Alan, I am determined not to slide (too far) down that slippery slope. The $AUS only buys 66c US. And then Fedex etc add considerably to the cost.

I do not intend keeping this car long term so don't want to over-invest. On the other hand I do want to do it properly so that I do right by the next owner. Water pump, cam belt, rebuilt tensioner, oil leaking gaskets replaced, torque tube bearings, circlip and shims on front of circlip-grooved central shaft, new CV boots, upholstery all tidied up (re-dyed as needed). If I do too good a job I'll be tempted to keep it - now that is really where the slippery slope lies :-). I think I have enough cars now...

1975 914 2.8L
1981 924 Turbo
1983 Alfa V6 track car
1986 928 4.7L
1989 944 2.7L NA
1989 944 2.5L Turbo
1990 928 5.0L S4
1992 968 3.0L
2016 AMG GTS 4.0l,
Plus a couple more everyday cars.....

The slippery slope seems to be that I am better at buying cars then selling them.. Oh well, you're a long time dead :-(

Cheers all
