I guess you were talking to me. I kinda forget, it 27xx. It was really taken care of before I bought it. Had 89,123 miles (now around 95,000 a year later), with sport seats, and 5 spd. Had the timing belt done immediately, and some small odds and ends. Put a new stereo system in and had the windows tinted. Getting a RMB (this week) and thinking about putting in a chip set. The car sits in the garage and get taken out once a week (weather permitting) for 100 miles or so.

Oh, and thanks for the compliment. Looks almost like your car, only difference are the wheels.

928drvr86.5

I saw in another thread you stated you had a 928SP H-test pipe (cat bypass). May I ask what kind of performance improvement (torque, hp, driveability ?) that made to your 86.5?

Not much of a HP/Tq improvement as far as i know, maybe in the 5 to 10 range but nothing really noticable as far as i know. It's never been dynoed so i can't attest to any increases. By driveablity i take it you mean throttle response? Throttle response did seem noticeably better at mid to upper RPM's . I really love the way the 86.5's sound catless though, a big improvement over just the RMB. You will get noticed but it's not obnoxious in my opinion.

Default knock on wood

Unfortunately(?), I have no dings and no scratches, so I'm very nervous when it comes to parking. I always park out in the "boonies", the "back-40", "on the horizon". If I can't park away from anyone, then I look for wide, end/corner spots, where it could only get dinged on one side - and then I park as close as I can on the inside. If this fails, I drive around looking for another Porsche to park next to!

Angles: I've heard too many war-stories about disrespectful humans(?) who spitefully harm the car's finish of those to take two parking spaces, etc. So, I don't do that anymore. I just park way out and "hike" in to the store using the GPS.

My challenge is whether to park under the (Pine) trees or park in the sun. Pines typically unload sap all over the car, which is very troublesome to get rid of, but then the sun beating on the dash isn't healthy either. Delimmas...

I have to agree with the statement that as long as there are plenty of available spaces and you arent displacing anyone, whats the harm with taking two? I only find that irritating when there is a shortage of spaces and someone does it. I once saw a camaro at christmas time parked at the mall across two spaces with a dirty diaper smeared across the window. Dont agree with that tactic either but it was funny.

I think taking 2 spaces, regardless of if there's plenty of room, looks very arrogant, and doesn't do anybody any favors. maybe you won't get a dent, but the next time they see somebody with a Porsche, they may be a little freer with the door. You know, what's the difference between a Porsche and a porcupine.

If you can be troubled to go that far away, park at the last space all the way to one side. And be thankful you don't have to parallel park. And it was our beloved 928's that started the trend of plastic painted bumpers!

I am AMAZED at the diversity of opinion on this subject. I'm not sure why this should surprize me with THIS group, but it does.

Obviouosly there is a balance here, between respect for other's property, and the defense of ones own cherished property. As long as some people don't respect other's stuff, or feel envious of it, there will be this conundrum. I just don't get it, when someone makes the assertion that they have the authority to "teach someone a lesson" when that someone is not causing anyone any real conflict. I'd suggest that this perspective is the progenitor of the whole road rage issue, to boot, but that's another issue altogether.

Perhaps if we all consider our responsibility for mutual respect first, many of our conflicts would simply melt away in the face of considerate action.

I'm sticking to my earlier post!
As to the application of the term arrogance to double spacing...particularly if parked at the end of the lot ... MAJOR MISNOMER!
If someone gets parked in due to a bad angle ... such is life.
As to keying, nasty diapers, and worse;
Lessons can be given both ways.
MAD MAX dialog:
Push me? Shove you!
Slap me? Punch you!
I've witnessed (and reported) people in their 30's/40's looking at a nice car across the lane and purposely shoving a shopping cart into the object of their envy/hatred.
What would you do?
My sHARk is not a perfect museum piece though I consider her a presentable Weissach in all respects other than some electrical glitches. Point of fact I treat Pattycakes as part of my family.
While strangers don't know my car and don't know my kids, if either are messed with the results are similar.

If the lot is mostly empty & you are having to walk in from BF Egypt, then parking way out & pulling thru two spaces or even across them seems fairly harmless to me. If there are a 100 other spaces that are all closer in & you dont expect a mad Christmas rush of shoppers before you leave the store then who have you harmed? Some a$$ just because they are jealous of you? I know someone who parked way out alone, but was not confined to just one space & they got a ticket for not parking within the lines. Nice cop right? Anyone parking right up next to a car parked solo way out in the boonies or especially harming a car parked way out by itself(no matter how they parked) doesn't deserve to have a license. They also deserves what THEY get for trying to initiate something & sticking their nose somewhere they had no right to. Who made them the parking lot police? I have parked more than once way out, in just one space, only to come out & find one or two other cars around mine... with still no more or less cars up front by the store! Not sure if they liked my idea or what! Never had them mess with my car or park to close, just maybe didnt like the look of my car way out there by itself maybe.

Taking more than one space when the lot is crowded is selfish, wrong & Risky Business if you love your car! I wouldnt do it ever cause you are asking for trouble. I just try to find either an end space, or next to four door nice cars. Never the junkers or two door models that look like the USS Saratoga! Or even ones that look that they have 5 kids.... kids can have a car door get away from them unintentional, but the results to your car are the same.

I get peeved many a time when there are no spaces & some a$$ parks just enough over one side of the lines that it wastes the space, you wouldnt dare risk parking next to them. I think most of those people dont give a darn or just cannot drive/park. Can I say how many times I had thoughts of wanting to be driving a bulldozer at that moment??

I guess I shouldnt be shocked, but kinda suprised to think that any on here would damage another's car unprovoked, no matter what kind or condition it is, just because you didnt like how they parked. Figured we'd all leave that to the other jerks out there. Now retaliation after someone messes with your car unprovoked..... hmmmm I pity the fool that would dare mess with my son's Roush Mustang & risk him catching them. I tell him its just a car, but as he says... "hey, I dont have kids yet... that car is my kid!" Ya never know who that other car owner may or may not be. I have reminded my son of that too & I know he wouldnt initiate, but he would most definately defend to the death! You may just be messing with some guy who just lost his job, his wife left him, his dog bit him, house burned down, ..... whatever, you dont want to be the last straw and for what? Just cause you didnt like how he parked so you thought it was your job to screw around with him??

oh yeah, one other thought.... not sure about all the other states in the union, but here in the Sunshine State, we have had private citizen's concealed weapons permits for about 18 years now... God only knows who might be packing heat in the parking lot!!

You really can't win. Two weeks after purchasing my Audi Quattro TT (mint) I parked in in the fartherest corner of a huge parking lot, largely empty...no one remotely close...someone drives in...parks beside...opens the door to ding my door and drives off.

I know, I know...the Audis may deserve this but, just the same, I don't trust my Porsches out there. People are eat up with dumbness and jelously in some places. Nice cars are sometimes magnets for low lifes.
