THIS is an in-dash monitor!

Oh my God.

I wanted a screen in my dash, but not like that!

There is TONS of room down there if you can move those relays, etc from beneath that center console.

Hahaha. That's hilarious.

You know, the way I see it is like this- You're either watching the road or you aren't. If you want to watch cartoons, stay in bed! Gawd!

Thanks for the reminder, Jack 84S.
Still tuning in my "new" Blaupunkt CD player and had the
rear hatch rattling a couple of times. Especially now with
windows open driving season.
Maybe it's time for some strategic application of blue Loctite
in the rear hatch area. I'm hoping low frequency vibrations
do not mess up the battery. 10" sub in spare tire wheel
firing over the battery. (Soundstream amp bridged to about 200W
into a 2 Ohm sub)

It's definitely interesting to see the difference in opinions when it comes to the in-das monitor thing. I think that for now the 6.5 inch fold out Alpine that I have will do the trick. I reallly don't want to alter the dash too uch just in case I sell the car a few years down the road. Even though I do like the new all in one units from Eclipse like the AVN 2454. I friend of mine is offering me a great deal on a JL Audio W7 sub, so I might just go with that and a moderately powered amp. Gee, I didn't think that a sound system could rattle my 928 apart...LOL. Anyone have a drivers side seat for sale? The rears are great but of course the captains seat is a little worn on the bolster, I'd prefer a burgundy seat, but I can dye if necessary. Keep the comments coming and I will be posting the progress when I get the car here.

bc,

That's a killer screen. One could make it a touchscreen and transfer all the HVAC and radio functions to it - and still have room for virtual gauges.

Is HDTV DLP next?

Though I know, most of the kiddies use the in-dash monitors for watching downloaded **** when they drive, video really can have lots of good uses.

It is the future of instrumentation - you will have IR (infrared) nightvision capabilities, HUD (heads up display), and variable/selectable virtual gauges - you'll be able to set warning points (display water temp if it exceeds 200F) and use a config that suits your personal taste.

Probably in the 5-10 year horizon. Technology is already on the shelf and in new cars, just hasn't been put out by MBZ or BMW (maybe even CattleLack). Then, give it 3-4 more years and it'll be on mid-line Hondas and Toyotas.

what happends when a new technology comes out and the big hole you but in your dash is pointless? i like the idea of the flip out one because it fits the standard stereo hole, and you know the new technology will come out with stuff that fits that hole too. then you have a big old tv sized hole, and it wont be cool anymore. like those old chevy vans with the boomerang on top and the small black and white 2.5 inch tv in the back seat.

I removed the clock, widened the hole where it goes, and cut down the trim ring so I could put a din-sized EQ under the stereo. I moved all the relays, but even so have a "tiered" look, since the EQ was deep enough that it actually bumps against the tunnel. I like the idea of moving everything up, and bringing the climate control down lower. The whole center console and dash could use a freshened redesign.

you have never watched pimp my ride on mtv?!

oooh it is wonderful, they take these poor teenagers piece of crap cars and put about 20 grand into them and end up making them look so stupid instead of crappy at the end, but still, in contrast, it is so much better than what they had before. in fact it is on tonight, its a new episode! check your MTV listings.

I prefer to watch overhaul on Discovery I think. Foose does some wild thing to otherwise pretty homely vehicles. The guy has a ton of talent. The pimp my ride vehicle are pretty comical though. My daughters think it is pretty funny as well and love to point out cars that should be pimped.
