Not a bad result from a muscle car auction, but he would/should have done better with a 40K mile car in that color and condition on BAT, particularly given the touched-by-the-Car-Wizard provenance.

I don’t know any details but seems low for something with that low of mileage

To be fair, he's an entertainer that has been through ~100 cars in the past few years, no way does he have the bandwidth to know the ins and outs of each model. And his channel isn't exactly predicated on getting rich off old hoopties, so some buyer got a deal and he gets half a million views in 24 hours. Win-win.

I didn't like the color and the wheels. I don't know what's the name of those wheels (that were OEM in the pre-S4 and early S4's) but they don't suit to the facelift models at all, imho.

The color was weird. Maybe some people loved it but it wasn't my cup of tea.

The color may have been a factor for low(ish) price.

The good news is he only keeps cars that give him trouble. The other good news is no more clueless jabs by the car lizard.

as someone who's been doing the social media game (almost to the month) as long as Hoovie, with only a fraction of his success, I really can't judge how he runs his business. I can say that it's nice to see people paying attention to the same model of car I currently am working on, and hope that some of those views and attention drift my way. He gets more subscriptions in 2 weeks that I have in 6 years, and more views on one poorly performing video than I've gotten in the history of my channel. So he's doing something 'right' in my eyes. At least he and the car wizard give a fairly reasonable view of ownership of a vehicle in a relatively short timespan.

Hoovie did collaborations early on with the folks at Jalopnik. That I'm sure helped boost his exposure. You should try to hook up somehow with the guys at Donut. IMO they are currently dominating the car YT space.

And the car was a Frankenstein, It was an automatic that someone put a manual Transmission in. And who knows if it was an early mt or the latter mt. So, for being a conversion and the vin not matching the transmission I think 43k it pretty good. I think a real 88 MT would have gone for more money. Imho.

Did he even ever do any content with that car? Or was it not enough of a basket case? I thought there would be more than the "Look at what I bought" video, but if there was I didn't see it.

Hoovie bought that car from a BAT auction this spring that didn't meet reserve. Think he bought it for $30 or a tad above. It was in pretty good shape but I recall the Wizard didn't charge him much. He did a couple of videos on it - when he bought it and then the Wizard repair, so he gained some $$$ off those videos. He didn't seem to take to the 928, maybe because he was hoping it would be a disaster that he could use in multiple vids and it didn't turn out that way. He doesn't make money on cars that run well.

The car was hammered sold for $43K, but don't forget the seller's fee. He mentioned it was 8%, so he cleared $39.5. Hoovie said he made $4K on the car.

That's a good point I had forgotten. It's surprisingly hard to get collabs going. Youtubers aren't as cooperative of a group until you get your numbers up. Helps to have friends who do it, like the wizard got his boost from just being on hoovie's channel

I'm a long time collector of the Cassisrot/burgundy so I was interested in it for a while. It shows very well with the hood closed, I never got a pic of the engine bay. Since it was an auto-5sp conversion, finding out the trans, and how the conv was done put me off some. My guess is that it's an early balk-ring type trans, and that would need to be gone through fully, or upgraded. Next, without knowing the mech province of the car, I always assume it needs all of the 'big job' type upkeep. That is, TB/WP, front eng re-seal, top end re-seal, oil pain gasket, motor mounts. With all that running around $12k in parts and labor it just wasn't the deal I was looking for.

I might have paid the $30k he got it for but no way over $40k to me. Frankly, I would prefer it go back to an auto trans, and have all the mech updates. If it didn't need anything under the hood, then the price was fair, but no bargain. Surely the mech updates mentioned on the Miata he sold, and the open hood on the super-bird tend to make me think it has not been kept up.
