That's a beauty!
Lovely color.
While I don't understand someone buying a car and driving it for only 200 miles a year, it's really nice that you found one of these cars.
Congratulations and Happy Birthday.
Dave, that is a great looking car. I agree, the color does look like CassisRot. Great color for sure. Are those wheels polished or chromed? When does it arrive?

Mike and so many 928 friends...
I picked the car up yesterday and drove it 278.2 miles - eclipsing the previous owners annual use of 172 miles by 106.2 miles! In one day!
Yes! It runs and drives like a new 928 S4! it is smooth and quiet, sooooo quiet at a stoplight that even with the stereo turned off, you can not hear or feel it running. Did I say smooth? Friggin smooth!
I did some blasts to triple digits and some threshold braking to bed in the brakes on the somewhat rusty rotors - only to reveal that the rotors are 4 years old, but other than some surface rust - new with the fly cuttings clearly visible.
The first thing I verified was the color and it is Cassisrot Metallic with a Burgundy interior. Zero wear on the seat bolster and the cleanest door jambs I have ever seen on a 928!
Check out the condition of the color sticker! Not faded at all and no seatbelt chips in the doorjamb! Again
After the paperwork, I decided to do the unthinkable and re-set the trip odometer to record my miles and see if the thing was working.... Drumrolllllllllllllll Yes, it works!
Time to drive her home (this is my first "her" 928). I have always referred to 928's in a masculine tense which is of course politically no longer cool, but I ain't cool - so take that thought police!
Off to a Mobil gas station 11 miles away and verified that the Odometer was working.
Again - drumroll and yes! it works!
Time to take HER home! Headed north to the land of Great Lakes of Crystal Clear Water, cool summers and snow and ice filled winters. The place where time stands still for collector cars while their owners fret over little things like coolant changes, polishing and attending to the tiniest of oil leaks. Where Scotch flows freely by the roaring fire and women take their clothes off in the sauna... Only to roll around sweating in the snow and repeat the extreme heat... But I digress...
The pitter-patter no thump-thump of not-so-round - - - new, but old Pirelli P-Zero Rosso tires slowly dissipated as the miles accumulated, but it never went completely away. They are toast! Stopped at the car-cave to trade the factory flat wheels for a set of early, genuine GTS Cup One wheels with a nice set of Bridgestone's. Ahhhhhhh! All quiet on the tire front and in my estimation - better looking.
New round and quiet tires - - - This is what a new 928 S4 is like! My goodness, the car is fantastic! I can not possibly go straight home from the shop and instead head out onto some of my favorite twisty roads! After an hour of pure bliss, it is time to take her home for a bath... I'm not going to give you a description of the warm soapy water and sponge bathing her curves or putting slippery lubricants on her soft bits because that would be inappropriate. But you guys get it, washing a fantastically preserved car is downright fun and, this one has some dust and dirt on it from years of sleepy time, parking under trees, sloppy wax jobs and not many washes since 2006.
Even the stereo works well after all these years and that stalk thingy is pretty cool. I did not find anything that does not work! The AC blows cold and the heat gets hot. The drivers side power mirror had to be coaxed to go out but that was quickly dealt with. The seat memory works! All lights work! The hood heat pad is deteriorating and must be replaced, and since the car was originally from Houston it has god awful old tint on it. I'll be careful to take it off without scratching anything or getting too pissed off. Any helpful hints on removing old-old-old tint will be appreciated!
There is no doubt that this is the best condition unrestored/perfected 928 I have ever seen. The Houston heat and humidity has put some patina on the cadmium and other parts, there are a couple of garage nicks and buff-able small scratches but that just gives me another excuse to spend time with her.
Do I feel fortunate? Yes, I am a happy person! I can't wait to share this one with all of you because it is truly a "Gem State" example!
Dave, that CassisRot looks far better with the silver of the cup 2 wheels. You have really upgraded the aesthetic. Something about the shininess of the polished (or chromed) Gullydeckel wheels doesn't look quite right. I bet some club sports would be good too/
You will find the CassisRot photographs best in low light and overcast days, You get much more copper tones. I love my CassisRot GTS and I feel its a well suited color for the shape if the car. The color shows a lot of gloss and you can see the natural "CS" refection in the fenders.
You owe the forum some high quality photos of what an un-worn interior looks like. Specifically the seat cushions and rear panels along the windows where most are warped. Id be curious about a few other fresh from the factory details like, what are the positions of the headlighs with respect the fender. I haven't found a spec for adjustment but I have seen everything from the glass flush to the top of the fender to flush with the bottom of the headlight well.
Wow Congrats!! But, I'm still not convinced that this car is as great as you say. I still haven't seen any engine or full interior pictures. Just sayin'
Then again, I'm also not convinced that the world is round, we landed on the moon and that's your "Man Cave". All this can be faked.
