Default Well my momma told me there'll be days like this

Tranny/LSD assembled

Transaxle and torque tube installed

Engine freshened with new injectors, valve job, gaskets, sensors, hoses

Engine dropped in and bolted up

Installing the clutch and got another kick in the nuts

Coupler doesn't just slide on after all that

This car better be fun to drive when it is done, 'cuz this ain't!!

I'm thinking that I can grind out the weld on one of the pinch blocks, remove it from the splined sleeve, slide the coupling on, then get the block back on the sleeve when it is on the correct side of the housing flange.

Anyone tried that?

Maybe not, if you all are better informed than me and had the coupling slid on the TT shaft before you bolted everything in, you wouldn't have needed to attempt that!

Um bolt the upper bell and remove it, TT first then Top two bolts, then tilt eng. should be able to turn it, if you start grinding on that shuttle it could become out of balance and or weakened

I had an extra coupler on hand so I gave it a go. It was easier than I thought. had it on in 10 minutes.

The cut is very narrow; shouldn't be a significant effect on balance, It is really just a tack weld bridging between the two components so the tube section was untouched.

It slid on fine without the pinch block and I put that back on after the coupler was in place on the shaft.

While I certainly would not have done this, it's not the worst thing I've seen, by a huge margin.
It's not uncommon to find couplers with broken tack welds....and this is essentially the same thing.
Line the two remaining nubs up, before you torque the bolt and iit will work perfectly.

Here's another one of my blasphemous hacks. How could I stray from the original design?? I think there are many out there that have done this or worse!

A car is designed for the masses with a lot of compromising. I don't consider the factory design as perfect for me so I am always altering the configuration as I work on things.
