Default LED Headlights without resistor

Lets say I put in a set of these Holly Headlight bulbs Bright Earth 9004BEL Bright Earth - LED Replacement Bulbs - Forward Lighting - 9004 (holley.com) and don't put the resistor in. I know the "Headlight Out" warning on the dash will come on. But without the resistor it will pull less amps (each resistor "50 watt / 6 ohm Load Resistor" will pull/allow 2.3 amps for a total of about 5 amps), I'll just have the warning light on. So without the resistor it's about 5 amps less load on the wires and alternator.
Correct?
I don't know why the car has a headlight out warning, because when the head lights are up there is a little tap on the top of the headlight you can see and know if it's out.

What on earth makes you think such a thing exists? the headlights are not monitored.

The only lights monitored are Brake lights and Rear + Rear/Side markers. No front lighting is monitored. You may have other anomalies with front LED headlamp bulbs depending on the bulbs you use (high beam indicator, fog switching etc) but it is nothing to do with monitoring.

You are right!
Why did I think there was a headlight out indicator.
So, I guess you can just throw a set of LED bulbs in the car and be done. No resistor needed and no set of ballasts for anything other than running the HID lights if needed.
But these are led's so I'm just going to put them in and be done with it. I hope they work well. It would be nice to see at night. they are White 6500K with a light output of 6000 Lumens.

Read the other parts of the reply... it may be that easy but it may not be - I'd say overall more likely not quite that easy. What have other people's experiences been on this recently with the latest LED bulbs?

I put LED bulbs into the 8" H4 Euro lamps on my 81 Euro S and had no issues and quadruple the lighting of even the off-road only use high wattage halogens. Frankly, they were better than the HID kits that are in both my current 928s.

Don't do LED headlights unless you are using H4 lenses, also you will need to replace the Fog Light Relay w/ a standard Type 53, unless already fitted.
I have LED's installed in 7" H4's and 8" H4, love them!

I put the Holly headlights in and they worked great. I had to modify the thing that hold the bulb in, the plastic screw rotating sealing part. It wouldn't fit over the cooling fins on the bulb so just a little filing, just enough for it to slide over the fins and it was good to go.

So you do have H5 lenses and did have 9004 incandescent bulbs. Unfortunately as Dave noted: the focus on these lenses is far from optimal for any brighter incandescent bulbs and certainly any deviation from the correct filament position & orientation (this is dependent on the LED bulb construction) will make the optical glare even worse. I'd encourage you to verify how your low beam headlights appear to oncoming cars - you may well be blinding them with your low beams - obviously this is not a good idea for them - or for you. H5 lights have no vertical cutoff - just a loosely focused blob - brighter bulbs just leak more light everywhere and make the blob bigger & less well defined on the road ahead. H4 (ROW standard equipment) headlamps have a sharp low beam cutoff providing a defined horizontal beam profile that makes high output bulbs (of any kind) much more viable.

Where would I find the H4 lenses? Would these from Pelican work?

These look to be 7" units. 7" H4s with 9003 bulb holders would be a functional step up from what you have now - but aesthetically you will probably want to stick with 8" lamps (else you'd need the chrome trim ring like the early cars). The 8" lamps also do a better job functionally again - the best stock solution you can get. You will need different LED bulbs for any H4 lamp (9003 type base). Search for Porsche 928 headlamps 92863110103. They are not cheap - but occasionally you can find used good condition available.

I used Pete’s setup on my ‘89 and the high beams were on when the switch was on low beams and lows when switch was on high beam. Also, the high beam blue indicator was always lit. Different electronics in different model generations.

I had that issue when first installing them in the 81 too, but my connectors had been previously taken apart so I had 3 individual female spade connectors to figure out how to connect. Once I figured out the right combination, everything worked as they should without any current bleeding back through the high beam indicator.

This is the wiring combination that worked on my 81 Euro S.
