I repeated a FACT stated by Herr Hensler, the 928 engine designer! Here's another fact, the S4 engine was too low on power, just 6 more than the Euro for all that effort and complexity. The S4 should have had GTS power levels and the GTS more than 400bhp to keep parity with the competition. I blame schutz as the ceo for that, he was a 911 guy. Here is an opinion > schutz was a moron.

"Herr Hensler carefully words his answer "We were NOT happy with that engine ........ not up to the standard of the euro ....... it took some time to sort out the bugs""

Bottom line is we all own the best looking car perhaps ever made, some others are close. It's not a huge amount (the difference) like today's cars where some have a 1000 SF90 and other JUST 600

I only have owned 2 928's in 40+ years so I don't know how to compare. My other was an 80 Euro with a special engine I no longer have the specs on. I imported the car back in 85 with others. I was told it was larger displacement 5.0 and over 300hp but sold the car in 86 or 87 due to too many electrical gremlins. The mechanic I had work on the car quickly gobbled it up at $19k over what I paid. White over black sport seats and extra pasha. It was an amazing car for the day but I still prefer the torque of the GTS. I wish I had them side by side today to compare back to back.

I do find it interesting that both the 928 and the turbo always seem to have similar HP and tq numbers. The S4 closely matches the 91-92 3.3T along with the 94 turbo vs the GTS. The difference is about 400 pounds of heft the 928 has. My turbo is considerably faster in most cases but the GTS is no slouch especially above 3200 rpms.

To that point about turbos....stealthily at Frenzy was the epic midmount turbo S4 5 speed created by Bulvot. Professional-level conversion.

I saw that car, I think it was 2002 or 2003 Sharks in the Mountains - to me, it was the best looking car, and the day I fell in love with Iris Blue.

I saw Iris at his garage condo in Wichita this past year, just as beautiful as ever. He'll own that one forever. Got to drive his Turbo Cayenne as well, man what a rush that was!

His black '88S4 with the Champagne burgundy pasha leather seats was there, too. It's pretty sweet in its own right. Marc is the man!

Cool. I’m surprised, but happy, that he still owns it. Someone told me that he’d sold it.
