mine back in 2006 (top old injectors) and nowadays (bottom, new brace nutz and gearz). The crappy unfinished look of the factory appearance was just LAZY by Porsche, extra money on something they thought most people wouldn't give a toot about. BUT then they put a poorly done badge on as "we got to do something".
This was a 3M wheel finish not any application. Now it looks finished and like what it is, a machine.
tv, that's a beautiful looking machine to me! When you say "3M wheel finish", do you mean that is what you polished it with (edit: added pictures)? It looks polished to me, especially the plenum/body.

Thanks, I owned an industrial level polishing machine, kinda like a giant grinder. I had a LARGE 3M wheel on that machine, like 12" diameter wheel. I used that on the individual pieces like polishing shoes. It wasn't a polishing wheel cuz it left a satin finish. (17 years ago) The finish holds up unbelievably well. doesn't oxidize
I can't remember how I did the rough work on the plenum, but the finish is Mother's Mag & Aluminum paste and lots of elbow grease.
Thank you, tv - good to know and excellent results! Also good to know it lasts.
I don't have a spider intake on my 86.5 - it has the U.S. version magnesium "organ pipes". I believe the spider intakes are a different material, but I have seen polished organ pipes which also look beautiful and that is the goal for mine. I am always interested in the processes that folks have used.
