It depends. Maybe it will work, but the results of that test are not guaranteed to be conclusive. You can view the batteries as "buckets" that each contain a certain amount of energy. If one of them is too low, it will take some of what's in the other "bucket". In extreme cases, enough energy goes into the low battery that you still don't have enough energy to crank the engine. Other factors will affect your results, such as the wire gauge of the cables, the resistance in the connections to the batteries and between the cables & cable clamps... If the battery that's in the car is not holding a charge, or has insufficient output you're better off swapping in the "good" battery. That way you are reducing the number of unknowns, rather than adding to them.

well the 48-hour slow charge did the trick!
got the car home from stowage
also noticed some paperwork in the glovebox a bit damp - maybe that affected things too with the garage conditions.
