Door speaker grill cover removal 94 GTS

Needing to remove the factory speaker grills on a 94 GTS. I remember the older models simply screwed on but my GTS appears to just be spinning around and around without coming off. And attempting to spin it around is a bit of a chore at that. Obviously I don’t want to crack the grills ring so any advice would be greatly appreciated.

They're retained by 4 male tabs around the periphery of the outer ring that latch over the speaker frame. You can sort of see one tab here on the biggest grille. Need to pop them off verrrry carefully as they're fragile...

I assume they’re located at 12, 3, 6 and 9?

They're 90 degrees out from each other, but they could be anywhere around the circumference of the ring- as far as I recall they don't 'register' into slots in the speaker frame.

If you can come up with a pretty foolproof way to get them off without cracking, this particular fool would be very interested to hear how you did it. I've been going through the speakers in my GT to refoam them and have not managed to remove one without cracking the ring. I've now been spending my time thinking about how best to fix the rings. New parts are available but they're expensive.
Good luck

I have had some luck with aluminum body tape, gooping JB weld on the inside, dremeling it smooth and refinishing with SEM colorplus paint. Most of the time the repair will hold when you re-install the grille.
Porsche shoulda stuck with the screw-on grilles....

I've thought about 3D printing some screw on grilles but I'd really need to up my CAD game; I'm mostly familiar with woodworking designs and adding threads seems like it will take some learning. Not impossible, of course, just low on the pareto of things to do.
I was going to try QBond for the repairs but I worry about how brittle it is; JB Weld may be more accommodating in that respect. Thanks for the heads up.
Cheers
