Thanks guys! It's the injectors. I'll send them off.

I really appreciate it!!!

When you did your valve cover gaskets, did you also replace the o-rings on all the vents?

Oh, and I second the suggestion to do a smoke test. I found my issue in 5 minutes after I spent weeks looking here and there.

Thanks for the reply SwayBar!

Yes, I did the smoke test. It seems tight. Nearly everything is new. And yes, I replaced the o-rings. Roger Tyson has been a huge help.

I've found a place in TX to get the injectors rebuilt – InjectorRX. If anyone has a bette suggesting...

Thanks all! This is my daily driver.

The ignition protection relay isn't on the CE panel. Its a clear box next to the ECU's - if when running (rough) you don't see any LED's (red/green) inside illuminated then you have no problem with it. It was installed from '89 onwards.

O2 sensor? One thing that happens a few minutes after startup, as the engine warms up, is that the LH starts to use the factory narrow-band O2-sensor to adjust fuel. If it is disconnected then it gets ignored, but if it is connected and lying then the mixture gets wonky-- typically lean, if it is old. Those sensors are only good for around 60K miles.

So first disconnect the O2 sensor (rubber 3-pin connector near the CE panel), if that makes things better then replace it.

The ignition monitoring relay activates 18 seconds after cranking, but can go bad due to a weak or faulty sensor in one of the exhaust manifolds anytime.
When your car runs rough, turn it off and immediately fire it up again. If the problems go away for a couple of seconds, it's most likely the relay. It can be bridged easily. Porsche even made a jumper for this, it looks like a relay box, but it's a simple bridge.

Do not drive the car while running rough! If the ignition monitoring relay senses a fault, it'll shut down four respective injectors related to the connected ignition circuit.
The rough engine will introduce a lot of stress to the torque tube. Nothing will happen initially, but this may weaken the drive shaft and one day you will get stranded because it'll shear under load.

This is not "limp home mode"! This system was only introduced to prevent cat fires due to unburned fuel.

Update...

The ignition monitoring relay has a green LED. Based on Schocki's earlier thread that I ran across, this indicates and issue injectors in the left bank.

The injectors were out of the car for about a year, and I'm sure they need to be professionally cleaned. I will be sending them off to have them done right.

I did check the O2 sensor. It's good.
