Hi Curt, it means you have a U.S. model 1978, #1061, which is the 1001st U.S. car built that year. Probably assembled in late spring of 1978. There were about 1130 US/Canada '78s made.

I have it from a reliable source who spoke at length about 928s with D.Bell at last year's PCA Tech Tactics that the 928-Special's motor was fragged in a super-long high-speed redline autobahn run with Bell and son in the car. Presumably due to oil misting at sustained near-redline rpms.
