Default 79 Front Brake Rotor availability

Are front brake rotors for the 78-81 only available from Porsche? Seems there are plenty of rears available but no fronts?? Fronts are available for other years but not the 79 I'm working on. Has it been this way for awhile?

Yeah, only from Porsche. Been that way for a few years now unfortunately.

You can always upgrade to the S knuckles to fit the larger caliper and rotors. They're a fairly inexpensive and moderately easy brake upgrade.

Honestly they're perfect for a street driven 928. They stop my 85 nicely IMHO.

I used caliper adapters and fitted GTS calipers and 993TT rotors on my 79 - no other changes to uprights or anything else.

Thanks for the input guys. I have a couple new sets of Zimmerman rear cross drilled rotors on the shelf and was looking for some matching fronts. I found this set out of the UK but with shipping they are about the same cost as the factory rotors.

I’ll probably just go with the factory set since the car will be all stock and sell the rear sets I have.

Thanks

Petza, I bet that's a bit of an upgrade in stopping power? Looks like an easy switch, easy to undo as well if desired, later...
Cheers

Yep, and I needed it one day on the way to Sharks in the Mountains when a guy coming the other way either didn't see us or accurate assess my speed and our closing distance. He decided he had enough space to pass the car that was in front of him, which he didn't. Was able to just about come to a complete stop from 85 or 90 mph where he had just enough space to get back into his lane before slamming into us head on.

My son looked over and said "glad you upgraded those brakes". Me too buddy.
