Question Recommendations for good, small amp???

Hello all,

I have my speakers for my audio upgrade. MB Quart 210's for the doors, and MB Quart 316's for the rear.

Now for the amp. I will first be attempting to get an amp in the stock location. I don’t want to use the rear. The problem, as many know, is size. Most of the decent amps these days are all "Bling, Bling", and big and flashy so they will not fit.

So here is my question: Does anyone have any suggestions/recommendations for a decent 2/3 chnl amp that is small enough to fit in the stock location? Make and #?

Cheers,
Mike

Memphis AB class amps are small, but you're going to have a hard time fitting anything in there. You CAN however fiberglass it longer and recover it, and then you could fit a Memphis 2004 or 3004. The difference is the 2004 has 50x4 watts at 4ohms vs. the 75x4. Also, the 3004 is about 5 inches longer. Dimensions are 6.5x2x11.875/16.4. I'd prefer a Zapco anyday, but the Memphis amps are good amps and compact. Nice car audio places have them.

Mike -

Visited this issue several times. Not much choices. A/D/S made some good small amps in previous years, so did Soundstream that will/may fit the
area.

The A/D/S 4.15 power plate is a VERY small amp that will fit in the area with no problem.......it is about 6"x6" square. Power output is 4 x 16 watts at 4 ohms. Great little amp........I know, not a huge amount of power, but will do just fine with the MB Quarts if you are not interested in shaking windows.

They have long been discontinued and hard to find. I have sent you a private message on where you might find one.

A second choice would be an older Soundstream A4.......great little amp that is a little bigger. Don't know if this one will fit, but it will be close.
A little more powerful with crossovers......I have one of these in the GT, great amp.......4 x 20 watts.......makes my MB Quarts sing just fine.

They have long been discontinued and hard to find also, but you can find them now and again also.

Hello Barry,

Thanks for the info. I have alredy purchased a spare amp cover to use as a F glass mold if I need it.

Mike N,

You are a gentleman and a scholar!

The size of this A/D/S amp looks good. I will be looking into it.

Thanks again!

Cheers,
Mike

I'm very impressed with my Sony Xplod model XM-225W. Sourced on eBay for about $50 with shipping.

This is a small high quality 2-channel amp, with soft turn-on and level adjustment. It just fits in the S4 factory amp location. I have the amp to drive only the two 6.5" MB Quart woofers of my 10 speaker system. My 4-channel head unit (Blaupunkt Honolulu) drives all 4" woofers and tweeters directly.

This head unit also has 4 pre-amp outputs, which I use the two rear pre-amp outputs to drive the XM-225W.

I built an aluminum mounting bracket that attaches to the car body where the factory amp bracket mounts. The amp is attached to the car with two strips of velcro.

I previously installed a Legacy LA-120, which fit well in the factory location, but the sound quality just ok.

Hello Mike N,

Thanks again for your input on the amp. I was out bid on the A/D/S amp as it climbed over $75.

I did however find what I think is just the thing!

I came across an excellent condition JBL GT Q100 amp. It is a 25W x 4-channel amp. It measures 11 ¼ x 4 3/8 x 2 3/8 and I think it is a perfect fit for the stock location. $30

Cheers,
Mike
