The strange thing is this... I live in Los Angeles, and I have never gotten one door ding on my 928 in all the years I have owned it. But with my Toyota, I just repainted it, and I already have 3 new door dings. My theory is that when people park next to something that looks fancy, or expensive, they will be a bit more cautious when exiting the vehicle. (Unless they are complete a$$holes...) But with something that looks like everything else, they just don't even worry about it. They just smack their doors right into it. I just know that I follow the same thinking. If I park next to a Ferarri, I have a bit more caution when exiting, not to smack that car in the door. But if it is a beater, I may even "touch" doors, to aid entry. But not enough to ding. But I would not do that with some really nice car. Or maybe I am just lucky.

Somewhere I still have a set of plans for a device to do that. It is illegal though. The size of the shock is determined by the size of some of the capacitors used in the unit. The plans say NOT to use a specific capacitor, and then give the part number for it. Apparently when those capacitors are fully charged the amount of energy released in the shock when someone touches the car is enough to vaporise flesh. I guess they're saying that would be bad?

It wouldn't be enough to vaporize the whole corpse though. If the individual lived they could probably still call the cops with their one remaining good hand.

People are just stupid. Think of it like this, my '82 cost $43K in 1982... That's equal to 4 college educations at the time.

There's a reason Porsches cost so much and it's not just because they cost alot to make. It's because it keeps the rest of the world from diluting the superbness of the cars.

You never see Hip Hop videos with 996 twin Turbos in them. It's always Lambos & Ferraris. The average person can't comprehend the true excellence of a Porsche, and thus couldn't rationalize it to their peers. The things that make a Porsche special are not things you would show off. All you can do is appreciate them personally.

So people lean on them and gather around, because they KNOW it's something they will never have (at least not for another 20 yrs. which is as long as it took me to go from 20 to 40, which is really my point) and if some punk makes it big in the music scene, he still would buy a Lambo, because he wouldn't know WHY he should buy a Porsche.

Our cars are all nearly 18 yrs old on average, and people ask me all the time "Is that the new Porsche dude?" I say, "Yeah. it is." because usually the car is older than they are, so how would they know? which is really my point... - Ruf

Agreed--best sandwich in town and the weather this weekend was awesome--finally.

Eric;

I usually do Oakland (w/ a cameo at the O for some fries) but Saturday night we did the Strip district, with a grand tour of Primantis' and Rolands. Then hit Primantis' in Robinson Township Sunday.

Call me addicted...

Snobs,
Primanti's a fair repast but for a serious sandwich -Mill-Hunk , Local 1219 approved-. Hit the Triangle (Bar and Grill) Upper end of Regent's Square- hang a right at Frick Park -Willkensburg thats past Squirrel Hill on Forbes- and head toward Rankin/Braddock.
Speaking of chow hang a right on the Squirrel Hill Strip and locate Mineo's Pizza. My sister, the Bank Yuppie, never knew it was there -5 years in the Burgh- is now a Mineo's addict. I believe they still toss the dough, too.
Best thin crust in the Burgh!
For sheer rage wait till you see the FAT LADY shreddng paint off of two cars with a shopping cart while taking a shortcut!
Unlike a lot of people I VENT on the spot then forget about it.
This, of course, did not prevent me from immobilizing 2 pick-ups and one van since I bought Pattycakes.
I tend not to talk much in those situations and get right to work...
Steelers and Iron City forever!

John,

I agree--Mineo's is pretty good, but I prefer the Dormont Pizza Company--it has won my acclaim(and the majority of my pizza business).

The upcoming season is looking good for the Steelers. Duce improves the running game--they re-vamped the secondary, the O-line (appears) to be healthy--and there are a few desirable picks available when the Steelers draft, everyone is saying Rivers is the pick--but if he is gone, they are eyeing up that CB.
They definately have a tough schedule this year. The only home game I am not completely excited to see is the Jets(they S-T-I-N-K).

I have to disagree regarding your "Iron City" comment though--there is a reason that brew never received national acclaim.
