Well done Michael!

I am in agreement that this detail would have been like having a zit on the Mona Lisas face. Your conversion has been fantastic!

What a beautiful 928 you have created and I really hope to see it someday...

Bravo.

would a low budget modification of an auto to 5spd S4 cluster be removing the bulbs and then covering the gear indicators with well trimmed black vinyl?

What about if you could turn those openings and lights into a shift indicator, like they have on race cars? I know you have the tach right there too, but you could probably get enough of a visual cue from the lights in your peripheral vision without looking at the tach.

Of course, then you'd have to figure out a way to get rid of the letters, but colored bulbs and a little Arduino or something could totally work. You heard it here first.

Cheers

Sure, you could cover them up with tape. The trick would be getting the color and the texture to match. Gauge dials have a special coating that prevents any light reflection. I dont think you will find a tape that has anything similar. The cheapest option would be to ignore the gear selection numbers altogether. I noticed they faded from attention as I stopped relying on them.

At $200 this faceplate was a very reasonable option given the investment made on the rest of the conversion it was very affordable.

If someone is looking to do this, I do have a spare damaged faceplate I will give them. The damage is small and will be mostly covered up by the pod. This was damaged in shipping and the vendor sent a replacement. Heck, I'll even give you the glue. Thats a better deal than well-trimmed tape!

Great work and documentation, Michael, it's good to know that there's an option for delaminating digidash cluster faces.

I’ll take you up on that! If anything, I would like to inspect the quality before ordering one. Don’t mind paying something other than shipping.

Very nicely done!
