Default 79 Cam timing off several teeth

79 Euro
Getting ready for a timing belt change car came from a shop that crushed the fuel lines and caused many other issues. After fuel line repairs it started and idles better but not completely stable and had a slight miss.
When I first test drove it it was down on power big time: The cam timing marks are off about 3 teeth on Pass side Drivers is off by 3 teeth also. The distributer rotor is in the number one firing position and crank is on 0.
I have never seen this timing that far out am I missing something but would this even run in this condition?

0 at crank

Drivers off by 3 Teeth

Pass cam off by 3 teeth

Distributer at 1

The condition of that timing belt would make me wonder if the engine "skipped" cam timing, although the position of the rotor would indicate it's been that way.
You can't fix the past.
Start over.
Set things correctly.

If I remember correctly it’s about 7 1/2 degrees per tooth therefor pass was 30.degrees off and drivers about 24 degrees off. I’m going to double check rotor position to see where it is on its contact point on the #1 wire. As mentioned rotor position would have moved along with the position of the drivers cam. Looking at the belt I thought it jumped some teeth but the position of the rotor was close to the correct position had me questioning someone strung it incorrectly. Either way can’t wait to feel the difference when complete.

While it would start and run with the cam timing off 30 degrees,
that will not happen if the ignition timing is off that far.

There's a mark on the OD of the distributor (where the distributor cap sits), where the rotor should point to, at TDC.
Looks like a small chisel mark.

You got your money's worth, out of that belt, BTW.

I wanted to do some closure on if the belt slipped vs installed incorrectly and seems the belt actually slipped.
Looking at the rotor position and as you can see with the edge of the tape and pen it’s also moved in relationship with the position of the cam.
Appreciate the feedback and yes the belt has seen better days and that’s after 8 Months in a euro specialist shop to get the car running after 15 years.

With the rotor in that position, not much doubt that the belt slipped.
How it started and ran, I have no clue.

NOTE the front edge of that belt indicates that front edge of the belt is rubbing on something,
My first guess is the thrust washer on the front is turned around,
if you run the engine like this the belt will shear and could break a cam snout.

OR the pivot bolt and bushings are worn on the tensioner arm and the belt is rubbing on the back of the crank damper.

IOW disconnect the battery,
and dont turn anymore than necessary or run the engine till the belt run is fully inspected.

Dizzy is off by a lot , the rotor tip should be centered at that hash mark at TDC, the cap wires may be off a hole
