Default Tank baffle cover detached

79 928
Need a little advice the cover of the tank baffle is floating in the tank I need to decide the best way to approach repairing it. It was apparently removed and left in tank when sender was replaced.
Should I slip the sender in the donut hole and just lay it on top of the baffle I’m assuming it would move around?
Should it cut it and remove it completely?
Plan C?
Thanks

if you have a young person with a long arm they could put their arm through the sender hole and snap the cover back onto the anti slosh drum,
make sure they wear a long sleeve so they dont cut the skin on the opening

I volunteered the wife she could not get it snapped on so I would stay in place.

Run the car until the low fuel.light comes on, then go another 20 miles or so. This should get the level below the top of the white anti-slosh canister. Disconnect the electrical plug and return line from the sender under the access cap and remove the sender. Get your wife or child to put the cap back on and then stick the sender back through it. That will at least keep it in position even if it moves up and down.

While looking in the tank with the sender removed, make sure the strainer is in good shape. Crystallized fuel or debris that makes it past the strainer will jam the fuel pump.

Another option is to install a filter pre-pump but external to the fuel tank I did this on my '81 Euro using Sidewinder 1/2" fuel hose and a compact Wix filter.

Going to try it again if not I can fit the sender into the cover but hate to do it 1/2 way. This car will never be on the track and I have a new tank pump so it will be back to the way it was designed. As I said not satisfied unless it’s solidly on there see how plan C goes.
Thanks

The sender will hold it in place.
