Default Mystery Bracket

Dear Friends:

I spent Saturday re-organizing my stash of 928 parts and came across the bracket shown below, which either came off my car or off some poor 928 at a u-pull-it. For whatever reason I taped a washer to it but did not tag or bag the part. If you recognize it, your assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

If it's a 928 part it's not from a 78-79 or 87-95. Never seen that piece before.

It looks a lot like the plate that covers the back of the trunk release mechanism but don't remember it having holes so maybe not.

As Mr Merlin said: Gazfish nailed it!

Below are some pics of the bracket in my '87 S4 before and after removal:

As for the washer: maybe it one that goes below the bolts that attaches the release motor to the black vertical brace?

Cheers,

Manfred

Thanks Gents:

Heretic that I am, I replaced the original release motor with VW hatch release that works flawlessly 98 percent of the time. I spent days with that original hatch motor before I took it off and put it in a box where it will sit until I die or sell Brunhilde.

Note to self. Do not buy a 928 from Rob Edwards. His cars do not have this bracket....

Rob - I take it as a given that you have already added this photo evidence to the compendium?

Yes, had a look at the plate in the GTS to reinforce the lesson.

Looking at your photo, Rob, I see that the battery ground is held down with a bolt. My 88 S4 has the wing nut. Do you know when the change was done, or, is this just a better solution?
Thanks. Don
