Default 1978 USA manual #664 - Oak Green

This popped up Facebook Marketplace yesterday about 30 miles from my house. I got out there at the break of daylight today and took it home.

The ad looked promising, 46K miles and presenting well in the pictures....it did not disappoint! The history is kind of interesting and concise; bought new at Hoffman Porsche in east Hartford CT, then traded back in around 1984. From there purchased by the owner of a Gulf Service station in the area, this owner passed away a few years ago and his descendants have been using the car occasionally but mostly storing the car until today.

Has some original paint and some refinished panels, and it has a hand-painted pinstripe from decades ago so whatever work was done is very old. The records and condition verify the miles. Some of the features I liked about it are:

Perfectly operating clutch and transmission
The best original pasha seats I've ever seen
Car is complete: tools, jack, 77 dated spare, wood spare cover, books, correct gas cap, steel splash guard, battery cover, bulbs, etc.
Smells correct inside
Drives really well, very tight suspension.
SIngle mirror car, which I don't think Ive ever seen on a US car.
Original (tired) wheel paint

Of course it has needs; fuel bleed down, a correct radio installed, shift bushings, some paint love, but overall a very nice unit!

Nice!! Congratulations! Although I think it’s a bit unfair that a lot of good ones seem to show up in your neck of the woods. I just seem to run across well worn junk around here! LOL!

He strikes again! Fantastic find. Creates a possible dilemma, since the interior colors are the same as #1 and #2. Hmm.

Wow, great find! This is about the latest production number car I can recall seeing with the early style air vents...

Good observation... I used to own USA #680 (16 cars later) it was a real virgin car and had the later vents. I think with a lot of these changes there was a period of "phase in" rather than a hard stop of one design and the beginning of another. I've seen that on the Euro fender marker lights adopted in mid 1977. Apparently a passenger mirror was optional on US cars early on as well.

I looked at this car for about 30 minutes, drove it home and parked it, I'll be deep diving in the coming weeks.

so cool and just 30 miles from your house. that's incredible.

love the green on green/pasha, as well. amazing you could still opt out of a pass mirror in '78.
