I pulled the right rear trim panel out of my '78 5-spd to try and repair the vinyl that had shrunk over the speaker grill and found two ground wires that were cut as well as a gray wire and a gray wire with the white stripe. All of the lights in that corner work and the car drives well. The gray wires were cut out of the harness just after the fuel sender harness splits off. The speaker had green and brown wires connected but did not work.
Would an original speaker be Alpine? There was one there but just 2 nuts held it in.
Any ideas what the gray and gray with white stripe wires are for? I can't find something like that in that area in the WSM.

Somebody was in there scott. I do not believe Alpine were stock speakers. Also, based upon how the shrink wrap looks at the end of those wires, that is not factory.

this drawing of the fader wiring which I don't find in the WSM shows gray going to the right rear speaker. Since the speaker and radio is not original it would make sense that these fader wires weren't needed anymore. Would their outputs then have been to a ground wire?

Another idea is that those grey wires were for the rear fog light which is not on my US spec car. Ed I put the shrink wrap on those wire ends.
