Window switch drivers window.
Need help. Replaced driver window switch and while everything was apart it worked fine but when I put the panels and every thing back it stopped working. I have power to the switch but it seems like no ground. Passenger window works fine.
Switch is good the window just won't work. Any ideas before I pull off the door panel. This is my first posting so I hope I am doing this right.

So, the switch moved the window, before you put it back in the console?
Where did you buy the switch? There are Ebay knockoffs that half work, sometimes, and Porsche OE switches that always work.
If you pop the switch up out of the console, will it work then?

NOTE its common for cars that see a lot of hot sun for the console to deform,
this makes the corners where the window switches are rub,
then the switch may not press down far enough to engage the contacts .
OR the switch plate will get stuck in an activated position and this will kill the brush block circuit breaker.
SO take the dremel with a sanding drum and remove the lower ends,
and work down the corners where the switches are rubbing.
ALSO to note the console housing can snap off where the metal tangs are,
thus letting the switch fall into the console.
NOTE on original switches its common for the internal contacts to get hot,
then they melt and are pushed out the back of the switch housing.
This can be fixed by using a soldering iron to push the contact back into the switch,
then after it cools JB weld the back of the switch this will hold the pins in place.
Clean the contacts with Deoxit 100.
Rebuild the window motor / IE take it apart and grease the motor shafts, and gear case and the lift arm pivot ,
and replace the brush block. inspect the window limit blocks and replace the stops if they are crumbled.
Also lubricate the inner door latch to prevent handle breakage

Window switch not working in or out. I saw a window regulator mentioned in another post. Does anyone know where that would be in a 1987 928 or what number fuse it would be for the window regulator.

Another way to test for a faulty switch on the right side is to swap the Window switch connector w/ the sunroof connector and see if the sunroof switch works the window, if it does then the window switch is defective, assuming that the sunroof worked before the test

you would be wise to get the WSM and print off a fuse panel diagram for the year car you have.

As these switches are prone to failure, even new ones, especially when they are forcefully depressed, check the switch's operation with an ohm meter by unplugging the switch connector (Green is the right one IIRC) connect the ohm meter and depress the switch (should go to zero ohms) check up and down.

WSM is the 'WorkShop Manual'. It was quite readily available about 15 years ago, now out of print, I imagine. It is 9 volumes of documents regarding repair/replacement etc., and as I recall, one volume is nothing but wiring diagrams. About 9 or so triple fold out pages of wiring diagrams for each year model of the later cars!!
Used ones occasionally come available on the Rennlist Marketplace, or on eBay.
