Default 81 Left Side Storage Tray under Pod?

There are two studs, maybe 8" (est) apart, pointing towards the floor on the bottom and behind (towards front of car) the instrument pod. Not attached to the pod, but attached to the frame. Is there a storage tray or trim piece that I'm missing? I don't see one in the Body section of my manual. I can post a pic if necessary. Thanks, Tom

You're on the right track- there should be a tray there. If someone (whose initials are Rob Edwards) doesn't chime in with a pic, I'll try.

My '81 did not have driver side shelf also. There are 2 other attaching points on each end (like on passenger side) I bought one from 928intl.

Most people that had that tray took it out to get more knee room. I personally wind up accidentally kicking it whenever I get in the car so I took it out to keep from breaking it.

For the 79,I made a cover to clean up the look without losing the knee room from having the tray installed. Need to remove it, trace it, and make 1 for the 81 Euro too.

I like the trays.
Passsenger side one as well, though usually they remain since bulb competitor module is attached.

Effective semi stealth storage area.

I like the tray as well,
but with big feet and clunky shoes,
is a tight fit with the tray installed.
great for storing a few things including sun glasses a wallet and a phone

Thanks all for the input. Does anyone know the tray interchange years that would fit the 81?
Thanks, Tom

I thought the tray started in 82. I know my 81 and 79 have no provision for it.

Sometimes when people have the dash recovered or replaced, they use a later dash with the provision.
