So I'm trying to pull the carpet and rear seats out because they're dirty and destroyed and I don't have a key for the rear glovebox. Is there a way to open it without breaking anything? Anyway to get a replacement key once I do get it open? Do I need to open it to remove it? I was thinking of racking the lock open via LockPickingLawyer style, if that's possible.
There's an amusing thought...
I have a couple spare (broken) lock cylinders that came with my 928.
I could send one to LPL and see what he makes of this 70's Porsche attempt at security.
As to your question on opening it without damage, I don't know but can take a look at the lid of mine and see if there are any obvious faults to see.
Hopefully someone with more experience might chime in.
This lock is completely different than the door, hatch, dash glove box and ignition locks. they all use a split wafer which make them much harder to deal with.
The rear glove box uses a much simpler wafer lock which should be quite easy to pick. If i recall there are only 4 wafers in it. you should be able to make a simple tension wrench and pick and get through it with out much difficulty.

Got a picture of how the key should look like? I'm trying to pick it but I can only feel tumblers on one side. The other side I feel nothing. Which way does it turn to open?
So I picked the lock successfully three times but I still can't open it. I was able to turn it 90 degrees counter clockwise but it still didn't open. So I picked it again to turn it back to it's original position and still wouldn't open. So I picked it back counter clockwise and thinking maybe I gotta pick it again to turn it even more counter clockwise? First photo is when I was able to turn it and second photo is when I returned it back to it's original position. Sorry it got dark when I took the second photo. Turned counter clock wise Back to original position
I've never locked mine, but for some reason thought that you had to push down on the lock button once you turned it to the unlocked position, and while holding it down lift up the entire lid to open? If the (keyhole) button pushes down, you should be unlocked.

Oh crap, did I just lock mine? I didn't think I needed to push down on it like a button. I gotta see if I screwed up and gotta pick the lock back to it's original position again. Can anyone confirm which way the lock needs to be to open it?
Lock at 3-9 o'clock is open. The button is super sticky on my console and when I went through the same thing had to tap it with a mallet to get it to engage.
Got it open. Turns out it was unlocked and I just had to push it in. I picked the lock 4 times for no reason. My first time picking a lock so this was a learning experience. Now the back seat won't fold down so I can remove it. Fantastic.
Its been a few years since I looked, but for the back seat fold down - you should be able to see the latch on the outer lower side of the back.
If they haven't been used in many years sometimes they stick and the button on the side of the seat won't move. You should be able to push the latch down with a screwdriver

Thanks that worked. Was able to remove the rear seats.
